• Tuesday, October 11, 2005 - To Blog or not to Blog...
So I NEED to know... how are you all homeschooling, cleaning your homes, and still
finding time to blog?! Honestly, since we started school, it's
all I can do to keep up on laundry! It makes me giggle to think
that women who work full-time, call us to babysit or do the "extra"
commitees in our spare time! SPARE TIME? Are you
kidding?! So it's "killing" me to not be able to blog or read all
of my precious friends' blogs! Know that I miss you all terribly
and I'm so sorry that I haven't been able to stop and "chat"...
I'm going to put one of those "bloglet" things on my site so you can be
informed whenever it is that I finally make a post... but until then...
SHARE and Tell!:
When do you blog? (How old are your kids?... That might have something to do with it as well...)
When do you read your friends' blogs?
When do you random blog to meet new friends?
How much time would you guess you spend doing any or all of these things in a given day or week?
When do you blog? I blog whenever I have a spare moment - early morning, lunchtime, late afternoon, evening. I probably blog too much, but I'm enjoying it!
When do you read your friends' blogs?
evening, early morning
When do you random blog to meet new friends?
I don't random blog, but I do read through the Last 100 Entries several times daily.

Oh, please don't make me count up the HOURS - LOL! I probably spend 10 hours/week blogging ... maybe even more (now, THAT'S embarrassing, right?)

I could spend way too much time reading blogs. My computer is on, and online all day. So of course, every time I walk by it is way to easy to check my mail...and maybe a blog or two. I've been trying to shut it down during the day...scroll through the last 100 blogs in the morning, and then visit my blog friends once or twice a week, in the late evening...like now 11:07 in PA...and I should be getting some much needed beauty sleep! Eleanor
Well, I have a 6yo, 4yo and 11 month old. I also have a business I run from home. It is 10pm and I should be in bed, but had to check in to see how my friends are doing. Blogging is a good outlet from me where I can "chat" no matter the hour at night or if it's dinnertime in someone's home...someone will "hear" me...it's also just a relief to vent, rejoice, or just ask for encouragement.
Ideally, I would like to check e-mail in the morning after I wake up (before the kids), after lunch and before bed. I also check other blogs before bed...kids go down at 8pm, I clean the kitchen and straighten up the house, computer around 8:45-9:15 or 9:30pm. Then bedtime.
I actually write a blog when a particular thought hits me. As you can see, my blogs are pretty random in subject...just whatever I need to tell my friends before I forget! :-)
Gotta go fold some laundry so I have room on my bed to sleep! I hope you find what works for you b/c it would be great to hear from you.
I try and blog 2-3 times a week. I'd love to be more regular, but haven't managed it. I occasionally click on certain "friends" but generally just start perusing the "last 100 blogs". Like now, I was just going to do a "quick email check" before heading to bed. It's now 12:23. Oops! Once, I accidentally hit a button that had all my "friends" posts on one page. I need to figure out how I did that again, because that's a really cool feature.
In all honesty, I think you'd have to get up VERY early or let some things slide. Personally, I let things slide. ;0)
oh my heavens. stop being so organized. you're making me look bad (worse... i already looked 'bad'). On second thought, keep being organized because it gives me something to shoot at -- I mean for. shoot for. I will not shoot at you no matter how organized you get ... however, I will make fun of you ( i only make fun of people whom I adore).
love jen
PS write your own lightbulb book. I KNOW you have just as crazy (or crazier!) a life as I do.
# When do you blog? (How old are your kids?... That might have something to do with it as well...) In Romania, it was almost a daily thing. Here, it's very hit and miss, mainly miss. Usually late at night. My kids are 14, 12 and 7.
# When do you read your friends' blogs? Whenever I can, again, usually late at night.
# When do you random blog to meet new friends? Rarely. I have a hard time reading my friends' blogs.
# How much time would you guess you spend doing any or all of these things in a given day or week? Yikes, no clue except probably too much. But it is encouraging.
My children are ds17, dd14, & dd10. Only dd10 is homeschooled. (See my post entitled "Fledglings" for more on that.)
I blog whenever I can catch a moment or two on the computer. Since school has started I don't have as much time as I would like to read and comment, or even post for that matter. This blog thing is addicting so I have to watch myself.
I probably average 1/2 -1 hour a day blogging, depending on what's going on. That doesn't count the time I'm helping dd10 post her blogs and comments. I consider hers as school work. (See my post "Progress at Last: PTL for Blogging" for more on that :-) )
Hmm . . . well, there is a lot of breathing room in my daily schedule, so I use a lot of that for email and blogging. The first block of free time is for email. If I’ve got an organized thought for a post, then the next several bits of free time are used to write it. (I type super fast once I get going, so that helps.) I open a Word document and leave it up all day to work on it here and there. Just ‘save’ after each mini work session. Then when it’s done, it’s copied and pasted into a blog entry blank and posted.
My girls are 7 and 9, so they can wait a minute while I finish a thought. Most of the time, though, I try to get right to them if they need me. I’ve got to remember that my duties as “Mother” have got to come before my duties as “Blogger”.
Reading my bookmarked blogs is also done in these segments of free time.
I don’t really “random blog” anymore – there are so many that were set up but never really launched, or they haven’t posted for months, etc. I do zip through the most recently posted, and/or the last 100 once a day, though.
How much time? Since writing is done here and there, that’s not so much a problem. As for reading blogs . . . I was browsing for two hours one day when I realized that I had to STOP. (I’m not addicted, I can stop any time I want to . . . ;) So, if I do sit down during a long stretch of free time, I watch the clock or set the timer for 15 or 20 minutes. If there is something I’d like to come back to, it gets clicked into a ‘read later’ folder in my ‘favorites’.
Remember, no matter how we use your time, or how many plate one has spinning at once, I’d bet that somewhere, in every mom’s house, there is something that’s a little dusty, and a load of laundry that needs to be done.
and a woman seeking the Lord's Will (daily), a wife (striving to keep the romance alive), a "Smamma" (Step- mother) of one and a homeschooling mom of seven (I was never going to have children), who starts every day over (after messing SOME thing up the day before), knowing God's grace is overflowing (just like my laundry), and so thankful He's blessed me more than I'll ever deserve.
