• Wednesday, November 30, 2005 - Scattering Seeds

So I had an interesting thing happen that I felt I needed to share and send out as a reminder to everyone.

I got a call from a credit card company asking for a payment (yes, we were late), but instead of being rude, upset, or making excuses, I prayed to be pleasant with the woman on the phone.  During our "conversation" she heard the kids in the background and I told her that we homeschool.  Would you believe the woman asked, "Do you mind me asking why you choose to homeschool?"  I really was shocked, and told her one reason was because of how dangerous the schools have become... but then I felt a nudging to expand, for that's not the main reason.  I then told her our main reason was because I knew they wouldn't allow prayer or talk of God in school and we wanted to build a solid foundation for our children before sending them expecting them effectively minister.  What an opportunity to plant seeds!

As christian stay at home homeschooling moms, it's so important for us to remember that we are doing such a wonderful ministry in our children, but it doesn't have to end there.  Everyone we come in contact with (which is most likely those on the phone, since we're "locked up in our homes" , or atleast that's what I tease all the time) is an opportunity to scatter seeds.

We don't have to try and bring someone to Christ in every conversation or "slam" Jesus in their face, but instead... SCATTER SEEDS!  You never know what things you say will bring more questions or thought to those you come in contact with!

May God Bless your day!
In Him,
Amy

It is so great how the Lord uses us:) It would have been so easy to be rude to that lady. We never know how that seed will grow and sprout. Beautiful.

It is so nice to read about your full house. This homeschooling community is absolutely uplifting. It is refreshing to know that so many others have such a similar heart for God and for their family. I have added you to my friends too. So I'll be over for a read every once in a while too.

I so enjoyed your post. I love scattering seeds - it is such fun. I have these colourful creditcard size little reprints of articles from different Christian magazines onto which I put a sticker for free Bible correspondence courses at the back. I keep them in my purse and give them out to the ladies at the supermarket when they ring up my groceries, to the people who deliver stuff for me or who knock on my door, or who are selling things at the side of the road when I pull up at the lights. If I give to one person, you usually have the others close by come up and ask for one too! I had one guy even ask me for a Bible once, and another time when I went to the post office and gave one out - the guy says to me - oh, it is you again! He proceeded to tell me how blessed he was by the last one I gave him and how it had been a help to a friend who had recently lost a loved one. I have one about being a good wife - that one always generates interest and smiles with the ladies! As I write this it comes to mind that I have my precious Mom to thank for giving me this wonderful example of always sowing seeds.

That is sooo true Amy! And the best way for our kids to learn how to do this too is to set a good and godly example to them...

Doesn't that just encourage and bless you to be given that opportunity? :-)

I'M "JUST" A MOM...
and a woman seeking the Lord's Will (daily), a wife (striving to keep the romance alive), a "Smamma" (Step- mother) of one and a homeschooling mom of seven (I was never going to have children), who starts every day over (after messing SOME thing up the day before), knowing God's grace is overflowing (just like my laundry), and so thankful He's blessed me more than I'll ever deserve.
