• Wednesday, December 7, 2005 - SHARE and Tell: It's That Time of Year - Part II
So I've read some more thoughts on Christmas and
what it's become from a few blogs and wanted to share them with you as
well... I think it's just so important for us as Christians to NOT
forget the true meaning of Christmas, as well as striving to NOT
conform to the world's views and traditions. Please stop by and
read what Deborah and Annemarie had to say in one of their posts, and don't forget to read "SHARE and Tell: It's That Time of Year - Part I" (The following SHARE and Tell questions are from there as well, so you need to only answer on one.)
SHARE and Tell:
What traditions do you have in your home for the holidays?
What would you like to change in your home during the holidays?
Do you do "Santa Claus" at your house? If you'd like, share your reasons why or why not.
Financially, what do the holidays bring for you?
Emotionally, what do the holidays do to you?
What would be your "ideal" setting, traditions, ect. during the holidays?
What do you see happening for Christmas once your children leave home?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts! May the Lord bless us this
holiday season as we seek to glorify Him and our Savior's birth!
I added these questions along with my answers to my blog. I tried to use your trackback URL, but it didn't work. Not sure why. So, I thought I'd leave you a comment! I love visiting your blog... always uplifting, encouraging, challenging, and thought provoking!
We are not "Christian" exactly. (Hard to explain without writing a novel...) However, for ALL holidays, I teach my son the meaning behind them. We read the story of Thanksgiving every fall, and we read about the birth of Christ every winter. I believe honesty is important in life, so we do not "do Santa Claus".
I enjoy the holiday season. It is a happy time! We put up "Christmas" decorations (tree, lights, etc), and exchange gifts. Although we try to keep spending to a minimum. And most gifts are books of some sort! ha ha
What traditions do you have in your home for the holidays?
On Christmas eve we let the kids open one gift.
We also go to grandmas for a family get together and meatball subs.
What would you like to change in your home during the holidays?well it gets a bit out of sorts and off the routine of things ..but mostly less concern over the financial aspects of Christmas and more focus on JESUS.
Do you do "Santa Claus" at your house? If you'd like, share your reasons why or why not. We dont do "Santa" The day is about JESUS and i think Santa takes away for that. plus i just could never lie to my children.
Financially, what do the holidays bring for you? Stress and id like to be able to more.
Emotionally, what do the holidays do to you? mix of excitement/stress
What would be your "ideal" setting, traditions, ect. during the holidays? For the whole family(my parents, brothers , dh's side and friends all joining together in a service and then to a realy nice meal.
What do you see happening for Christmas once your children leave home? Once they have families of there own i look forward to joining them or having a big dinner at our home.
Tammy (i wasnt sure if i was supose to answer these questions at my site or just here. lol)
DH and I used to be very devout Christians (before we met each other) and have both had our "falling outs" with the churches we went to. We both had such bad experiences we swore to never go back.
Anyway, I homeschool because I think the public education system is crummy. I think my child should spend more time with his family. And I want to have more time with my child! ha ha I'm sure there are more reasons, but I am forgetful.... ha ha
What traditions do you have in your home for the holidays? We go to my sils for Christmas Eve and then we go to church. After that we come back home and have hot cocoa and open one present. The kids sleep in our bedroom and watch movies while dh and I wrap the presents. We always get a real tree and when we decorate it we play Christmas music and have hot cocoa and other goodies. The first ornament that we put on the tree is our dd baby booties--she died on Christmas in 1988 when I was 21 weeks pregnant.
What would you like to change in your home during the holidays? I would like to decorate the outside more. I also would like to volunteer more during the holiday season.
Do you do "Santa Claus" at your house? If you'd like, share your reasons why or why not. We used to and to be honest I wish that we never had done it at all. Number one we lied to our children and number two it set up the expectation for lots of gifts.
Financially, what do the holidays bring for you? we spend what we have. If we have alot we seem to spend alot and if we have a little then we spend a little. ;0)
Emotionally, what do the holidays do to you? Like I mentioned in question #1 our baby died on Christmas so I must confess that at times I get sad. You would think that after so many years it would get easier, but the memory is still there. I do however really enjoy the holiday and our children do too.
What would be your "ideal" setting, traditions, ect. during the holidays? Hmmm...I would love to volunteer at a soup kitchen or something on Christmas, but we do not have any of those around here.
What do you see happening for Christmas once your children leave home? Hopefully we will still visit them or they will come to our house. If not then maybe my dh and I will go to a place that does have a soup kitchen and we can volunteer there. ;0)
LOVED your blog~ when I am visiting others blog I see *you* in their friends list.
I now know why ~ your blog is so encouraging and nice... thanks for sharing
blessings,

and a woman seeking the Lord's Will (daily), a wife (striving to keep the romance alive), a "Smamma" (Step- mother) of one and a homeschooling mom of seven (I was never going to have children), who starts every day over (after messing SOME thing up the day before), knowing God's grace is overflowing (just like my laundry), and so thankful He's blessed me more than I'll ever deserve.
