• Sunday, July 13, 2008 - Personal DNA... Encouraging Visionary
So I was over at Steve's blog (a fellow church planter and new friend) and saw his Personal DNA test there, and of course my curiosity was peeked... Here is my personal DNA map that uniquely represents my personality. Mouse over any part of the box or strip to learn more about the traits that the colors represent. (I've also added my two cents' worth in bold italics to some of the things stated...)
MINE:
You are a Visionary...
Your imagination, self-assuredness, and knowledge of the world combine to make you a VISIONARY.
You have clear notions of how things could be, and the confidence to try to make them that way.
You enjoy having a routine, and prefer comfort and familiarity to risk and adventure.
Not needing others' approval to forge ahead, you are confident in your designs for the future. (I usually like other's approval, however...)
Your imagination allows you to envision the world as a better place.
You're better at thinking of the big picture than you are with details, and you can see wonder in abstract things. (This one surprised me, because I'm very "detailed" and often struggle with a really big picture...)
Style and appearances are important to you, and you have a good eye for beauty.
You are somewhat rigid in your beliefs, which comes from both confidence and an aversion to change. (um... yeah...)
You are good at creating works of art in forms with which you're familiar.
You're well-attuned to your emotional state, and not afraid to use your feelings to guide you. You tend to be cooperative, rarely contradicting others, and always considerate of their feelings.
You much prefer to have time to plan for things, feeling better with a schedule than with keeping plans up in the air until the last minute. Your decisions are well thought out, and you're not the least bit impulsive. (absolutely...)
Generally, you believe that you control your life, and that external forces only play a limited role in determining what happens to you. (I believe that God is control... I make choices... but God is in control...)
If you want to be different:
Appreciate the earthly, functional elements of things.
Your clarity of vision sometimes prevents you from being open to new ideas. Try expanding your horizon of experiences, and experimenting with novel ways of doing things.
how you relate to others
You are Encouraging...
Your outgoing nature, understanding of others, and directness make you ENCOURAGING.
You want others to do well for themselves, and you generally believe in their abilities.
You often know what's good for people because of your caring nature and your world view.
When you care about someone, you don't keep it to yourself: you are good at letting people know that you're thinking of them.
Because you trust people, you take violations of that trust very seriously. (...and get so hurt when that's betrayed...)
You thrive in social situations, and even though you know who you like and who you don't like, you can interact well with many different types of people.
You have a healthy respect for people who have earned what they have, and you strive to be similar to successful others. (I usually measure success by looking at the children of people...)
You are a loyal friend and a good listener.
If you want to be different:
Sometimes, in the course of being encouraging, you can be a bit judgmental—this can make it more difficult for others to follow your advice. (Top that off with being a first born... and you've got "bossy"!)
While you are an expert at getting the most out of the world and taking advantage of many experiences, you might gain some insight by taking the time to be alone, reflect on things, or just observe the goings-on in the world. (I don't do this as often as I'd like... but I certainly do this... so this one surprised me too...)
MY HUSBAND'S:
You are a Leader...
Your solid grounding in the practicalities of life, along with your self-assuredness and your willingness to appreciate new things make you a LEADER.
You're in touch with what is going on around you and adept at remaining down-to-earth and logical.
Although you're detail-oriented, this doesn't mean that you lose the big picture. (Funny, because Mike is more "big picture"... we had the opposites)
You tend to find beauty in form and efficiency, as opposed to finding it in broad-based, abstract concepts.
Never one to pass on an adventure, you're consistently seeking and finding new things, even in your immediate surroundings.
Because of this eagerness to pursue new experiences, you've learned a lot; your attention to detail means that you gain a great deal from your adventures.
The intellectual curiosity that drives you leads you to seek out causes of and reasons behind things. (OH YEAH!!!)
Your confidence gives you the potential to take your general awareness and channel it into leadership.
You're not set on one way of doing things, and you often have the skills and persistence to find innovative ways of facing challenges.
You are well-attuned to your talents, and can deal with most problems that you face.
Your independent streak allows you to make decisions efficiently and to trust your instincts
You're not afraid to let your emotions guide you, and you're generally considerate of others' feelings as well. (Um... working on that one... he's extremely honest, and so the feelings thing is being worked on... tee hee)
You tend to do things on the spur of the moment, not sticking to a set schedule. (Yes, and it drives me nuts... especially with seven children!)
Generally, you believe that you control your life, and that external forces only play a limited role in determining what happens to you.
If you want to be different:
There's more to life than the practical - take some time to daydream and explore the aesthetic sides of things.
You are Free-Wheeling...
Your charismatic nature, liveliness, and independence make you FREE-WHEELING.
You don't mind being in the spotlight, preferring social gatherings to quiet nights at home. (In the spot light only when he's in control)
You take a practical approach to people, not getting too involved in their feelings—or their business.
At the same time, your acceptance of others leads you to be understanding of their life circumstances, even if you don't quite understand their emotional reactions to some things.
Although you have a wide circle of friends, you're very discerning as to whom you can trust.
You're not rigid in your beliefs about the world, and you don't want to impose your perspective on others, but at the same time, you know that plenty of people don't always act responsibly.
Engaging with others is a large part of how you live in the world, and most importantly, it plays a role in how you see yourself—you tend to learn a lot about yourself in situations where you are with other people. (Yes!)
You have an understanding of the complexities of situations, and you don't judge others too hastily.
If you want to be different:
Your open-mindedness about the world gives you a great perspective on things, but your lack of trust in others limits how close you can get with them. Try opening up to people a bit more without losing your healthy skepticism.
While being the life of the party will occasionally come naturally to you, be sure to reserve time for yourself—see what you can learn by spending some time observing the world rather than just by diving in.
Be sure to leave the link to your blog if you do one too! It's kind of fun to make the comparisons between husband and wife as well!
I was wondering where Mike's blog is? I would love to read all about our church planting adventures!!! I would be a great way for his supporters to keep up with your mission. (hint-hint)
and a woman seeking the Lord's Will (daily), a wife (striving to keep the romance alive), a "Smamma" (Step- mother) of one and a homeschooling mom of seven (I was never going to have children), who starts every day over (after messing SOME thing up the day before), knowing God's grace is overflowing (just like my laundry), and so thankful He's blessed me more than I'll ever deserve.
