MY THOUGHTS on Stormie OMartian's "The Power of a Praying Wife"
Chapter 20: HIS ATTITUDE

My husband and I are both very passionate people.  That makes for either a SUPER GREAT day... or a HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD day... tee hee.  We wear our emotions on our sleeve and you never have to guess how things are going with us.  While that can be a really great thing, it can also be a really tough thing.  When things are good, they're very good... and when they're bad, they're horrid.

When praying about our husband's attitude, ours as wives, really need to be looked at too...
Without naming names, let me assure you that I am an expect when it comes to praying for someone with a bad attitude.  It took me a long time, however, to stop reacting to the negativity and start praying about it instead.     -Stormie OMartian (p.149)

When your husband is struggling with HIS attitude, how do you react?  Do you take everything personally and become offended or even get angry and grumpy as well?  Here's yet another moment when we need to "shut up and pray" for our husbands.  We cannot let his attitude rear feelings of anger or resentment in our own hearts, or we're in for a big mess.  Words spoken in anger are NEVER profitable.

We choose our attitude... We permit an attitude of thanfulness to rise in us.  -Stormie OMartian (p.150)

We must choose to pray for our husbands when their attitude is bad and infecting the whole house, cuz let's face it, when daddy is unhappy... EVERYone is unhappy!

If your husband allows himself to wallow in a consistently bad attitude, it will make a good marriage miserable, and a shaky marriage intolerable.  A habit of responding negatively will adversely affect every aspect fo his life.  Of course you can't rule over your husband's will, but you can pray that his will lines up with God's.  -Stormie OMartian (p.150)

It's NEVER fun to be around someone who is constantly complaining or whining about something.  Whether it's your husband or you, pray for God to bring joy to your hearts so you can begin to see all the blessings in each and every moment of every single day!

Dear Heavenly Father, Please fill my husband with the peace that only You can give.  Please give him the strength to be God-controlled instead of flesh-controlled (p.150).  I pray that he would be a good example of the joy that comes from you as he goes about his daily living in our home, at work, and in the world.  I pray that he would be patient Lord.  May he be slow to speak and never say words in anger.  Close his mouth Lord, so he never says something he will regret.  Do the same for me Lord when I am tempted to react to his bad attitude.  I don't want him to be a grumpy old man, but one who is a complete reflection of his love and trust in You.  May he come to the point of sayin,g "I have learned in whatever statre I am, to be content" (Philippians 4:11) (p.151).  In Jesus' name, Amen.

I just wanted to say that this one really hit home for me. My husband goes through periods of negativity. I always start out trying to be pleasant, but I usually end of angry at his negativity and the grumpy looks he has on his face. Most often, he is upset about something outside of the home, but it affects everyone here. I am going to do a better job of locking myself in my prayer closet instead of lashing at out him.
