MY THOUGHTS on Stormie OMartian's "The Power of a Praying Wife"
Chapter 24: HIS TALK

You've probably heard, "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me."  While it's a clever little phrase, the truth is, words ARE powerful.  They can build up and heal, but they also have the potential to cause damage in unbelievable ways.
Our words can justify or condemn us (Matthew 12:37).  They can bring us joy (Proverbs 15:23), or corrupt and dishonor us (Matthew 15:11).  What we say can either build up or break down the soul of whomever we are speaking to (Proverbs 15:4).  The consequences of what we speak are so great that our words can lead us to ruin or save our lives (Proverbs 13:3).
How a person talks, reveals what is in their heart, and while we might be able to withhold some things from others for awhile, once we open our mouths, our heart has become available for everyone to see.
Listen to the way your husband talks.  What comes out of his mouth has to do with the condition of his heart (Matthew 12:34).  If you hear him complaining, speaking negatively, talking like a fool, or speaking words that bring destruction and death into his or anyone else's life, he is suffering from negative heart over flow.    -Stormie OMartian (p.152)

You may be resentful or hurt because you've been the brunt of "his talk", but you must still pray for your husband.  No matter how he's hurt your feelings... your words are powerful too, and those that carry the Word of God are more powerful than any two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).  Don't doubt the power your words carry on behalf of your husband.  Pray for his heart to overflow with the love of Jesus so it will pour out of him and make him a man of HIS Word.

Dear Heavenly Father, I pray for You to make my husband a man not only of his word, but of YOUR word.  May his talk be a reflection of You and Your love.  Lord, I pray that when he struggles to know the right words to speak, that You would close his mouth so he never speaks and sounds like a fool.  Lord, let his words be wise and bring life.  Let him never be a man who has to have the last word... but instead know that there is power in silence as well.  Let him know when to speak, and when to be quiet.  Lord, I pray that You would help me with this as well... let my words speak life, love and wisdom into our marriage and my husband's life.  Any may my talk always edify my husband, even when I struggle with him.  Help me to not be offended by his words and become resentful, but instead give me the strength and wisdom to pray fervently for him when he falls.  I want him to be a man who doesn't just say things and nothing happens... but instead be a man who makes things happen and when he speaks, others listen because they know his words are true.  In Jesus' name, Amen.

I'M "JUST" A MOM...
and a woman seeking the Lord's Will (daily), a wife (striving to keep the romance alive), a "Smamma" (Step- mother) of one and a homeschooling mom of seven (I was never going to have children), who starts every day over (after messing SOME thing up the day before), knowing God's grace is overflowing (just like my laundry), and so thankful He's blessed me more than I'll ever deserve.
