"For God and Country in honor of the boys of Butler County who served their country and in memory of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the World War 1914-1918"
A few blocks from our home is a small monumental park. There is a statue, plaque and cannon commemorating the men from this county who served in World War I. I knew that it was in honor of a war but wasn't sure which one it was as I had never visited the place myself.
Cameron kept asking what it was there for and I told him Monday that since the weather was so nice that we would walk down and check it out.

I know that all the men that served in WWI are long gone but what gratitude fills my heart for the freedom they fought for. This trip reminded me of the monuments that God had the Israelites set up beside the Jordan River. It was to remind them of what God did for them and how they crossed the river to the Promised Land. When their children asked them what it was there for, they were to tell them.

What great pictures and what a great post! Although it can be inconvenient at times, we all need to be reminded to actually stop long enough to explain things to our kids about what the Lord has done. So, thanks for the reminder!!! :-)
Love,
Marsha

Seargent York is one of our family's favorite movies, we have such a love and respect for those who fought in WWI and II.
What a crazy world we live in now, in spite of all the victories the 'good' guys have wond over the years.
Sounds like a great field trip, and a great place to visit,
keep up the great work,
ali

I love looking at any war monument. It makes you so grateful for the sacrifices of our soldiers. I have a deep, abiding respect for all of our soldiers, that's why people like John Kerry infuriate me. Right now, especially, our soldiers need our full support.

Hi! Wow that was cool! What a great field trip! I can't wait til we move back East and we get to see some of those great things too! When we were out there (before M) I saw so many wonderful things that will be great to take him to when he's a bit older. What a wonderful way to share history with Cameron.
