Tuesday, May 1, 2007 - Week 33
It has been awhile since I've done a week in review. With Spring Break and sickness, we aren't right on track but close enough.
Bible: We have been reading about the last week of Jesus before his crucifixion. We should get to his death, burial and resurrection this week. He is studying this section of the Bible in Sunday School as well so this has been great reinforcement and he is able to help me tell the story.
Memory Verse: We are finished with his verses. He has said all of his Master Club verses. We have just been reviewing the 29 verses that he has learned so far. I don't know if I will add another verse or two for us to learn or this will be enough.
History/Geography: We are reading about Hero Tales now until the end of the school year. I have really enjoyed this book. It is amazing to me what he is picking up now as opposed to the beginning of Kindergarten. We have read about John Wesley, D. L. Moody, David Livingston, and Mary Slessor.
One of the stories of Moody was an eye opener. He was preaching a sermon in Chicago and he didn't give an invitation. He told them to think about what they should do with Jesus and come back next week to hear more. That night was the big Chicago fire in which 300 people had died.
Looking at his home in ashes he said, " 'I made a big mistake.' Was he remembering some special thing he had not saved from the flames? No, Dwight Moody was thinking of something else. 'I gave the people a week to think about what they were going to do with Jesus,' he said sadly. 'But they didn't have a week. Never again will I miss a chance to ask people, " What are you going to do with Jesus today?" ' "
Handwriting: We only have a few more letters to practice writing. We are not spending much time on this any longer. But his handwriting has shown great improvement.
Math: He is still working on addition and some subtraction. He also is getting very good at time telling. He can do all the 5's. He also just started counting mixed money. Ex: 2 dimes and 3 pennies. He picked up on this very quickly.
Read Aloud: We started The House At Pooh Corner by A. A. Milne. We are both LOVING this book. There is subtle humor in there that is making me giggle and he is enjoying the story lines and, if I do say so myself, the voices I'm doing for each of the characters. Although, I'm still not happy with my "Pooh" voice just yet.
There are less than 3 weeks of school left!

And doing those voices is fun, although I don't do too well on many of them. I find Piglet and Eeyore the easiest.
Sorry to hear you have been so sick. As you know we have our moments here too. This sunshine is great for getting back to normal though and feeling better. Get out there and soak it in.
Are you coming east to Stroudsburg this spring? Please let me know if you do again.

We loved Hero Tales. I must get it back out to read to Trevor, since he has missed some of our favorites. Sounds like you had a wonderful week at home!
