Only a Boy

Saturday, January 10, 2009 - Week 18 and 19

Posted in Week in Review

My weeks are a little blurred and mixed up as I am slightly behind.  We will be taking a few Saturdays so that I can be back on track where I want to be.  But that means that things are not getting done exactly in the week that they are scheduled.  AND I waited too long to record week 18 so I kind of forget what we got done that week apart from the next.

Bible:

  • Samson and Delilah
  • Death of Samson
  • Ruth and Naomi
  • Ruth gleans in the fields
  • Hannah desires a baby, the Lord hears her prayer
  • Samuel is born
  • Eli and his evil sons (This made me think of people's testimonies.  Our testimony and the way we conduct our lives can turn people off from the Lord.  I do not want to be the reason that someone decides that they want nothing to do with Jesus because of me)
  • God calls Samuel

Memory:

  • Ephesians 6:11 Put on the whole armour of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil
  • Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked
  • Added Zechariah and Malachi to OT book list.
  • Continued with poem

Math:

  • beginning multiplication.  Multiples of 0, 1, 2, 5, and 10
  • shapes: circle, semicircle, square, rectangle, triangle, trapezoid, rhombus, hexagon
  • reading and interpretting graphs

Literature:

  • Wind in the Willow
    • chapter 6 - "Mr. Toad" Toad is reprimanded for his driving obssession by his three friends, Badger, Rat, and Mole, but escapes only to steal a car and be thrown into prison.  The biggest part of his sentence was for his "cheek" with the local law enforcements
    • chapter 7 - "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn"  Mole and Rat find the missing little otter

History Lit:

  • Little Duke
    • chapter 9 - Richard is safe in Normandy but now the French and the Normans are fighting, as well as the Danes on the side of Normandy.  Osmund, Richard's trusted guard during his "capture" goes off to fight in his first real battle.  The Normans and Danes overpower the French and the king is captured.
    • chapter 10 - The King's two sons are sent to Richard as ransom for the King's release.  Lothaire, the oldest is as horrid as ever.  Carloman is scared out of his wits by what his mother had told them was going to happen to the boys, but Richard's kindness wins him over, again.
  • And Island Story
    • chapter 39 - Henry III - The Story of the Poisoned Dagger (Cameron's narration)
    • chapter 40 - Edward I —The Little War of Chalons (Cameron's narration)
    • chapter 41 - Edward I - The Lawgiver

Geography Lit:

  • Seabird - chapter 1 The Ivory Gull.  We found Greenland on several different maps and he also colored a map of Greenland.  Greenland is where our story takes place

Nature Lit:

  • Burgess Animal Book - Chapter 84 Oppossum

Poetry by Eugene Field

  • Buttercup, Poppy, Forget-Me-Not
