Friday, March 23, 2007 - Praise the Lord
In cleaning out The Room (see my clutter posts) we came across a wildlife binder. Cameron has been throughly enjoying it. He has looked through it several times. I showed him where each animal had a map of the world and it was red where that animal lived. Constantly all day it is "MOM! guess what lives where we do? Skunks! We can see skunks." "Oh, no that doesn't live close enough to us."
He again was perusing the animals when I heard, "Praise the Lord we don't have any of those around here, they're dangerous!"
It was a lion. LOL

Monday, February 26, 2007 - Recall
Don't you just love the funny things that children say? As we were practicing all our "Monday Verses" today, Cameron made a slip up. And I am sorry to tell you but there is a recall on humans. LOL
"Fear not for I have redeemed thee, I have recalled thee by name..." Isaiah 43:1 in the Gospel according to Cameron

Monday, December 11, 2006 - Birds and Bees, or Cows
Today my 4 year old nephew stayed at our house. I sat him down and did school right along with him. He seemed o enjoy it. I had a worksheet for them both to do and they both listened very well to the Bible story and read-alouds. In fact, school seemed to go faster with him here. And we didn’t’ skimp on anything.
After school the two boys went off to play. After holding our guinea pigs Cameron took him to the bathroom to wash their hands (a rule in our house after handling the girls). From the bathroom I hear snippets of conversation.
“No, that’s a boy, This one is a girl, see?” “No it’s this one”
WHAT in the world are those too talking about and looking at. I had no clue. Then, music to my ears, “Let’s go ask my mom, she knows about this kind of thing,” I hope to be able to keep that attitude for a LONG time. I’m sure there may come a day when he is no longer comfortable discussing certain topics with me, but for now and some time to come, it feels great that I am the expert on such matters. I’ve always answered his questions, which there haven’t been terribly many, with open and honest answers. I think children feed off us if we are uncomfortable with certain topics…anyway, I digress.
Cameron comes down with two of his bath toys. To big plastic, life-like cows, who are “anatomically” correct. They were arguing over who was the boy cow and who was the girl cow. I was able to set the record straight by pointing out the udder and discussing about that was where the milk for the baby and farmer came from, and that only girl cows can give milk. The boy cow didn’t have an udder.
We talked more. I do have to say though that I don’t think it should be called the birds and the bees at our house. More questions and discussions are stemmed from cows at our house than anything else. Interesting. LOL

Thursday, December 7, 2006 - It's a Lizard!
Did we get a new pet? No, we did not. But it is snowing.
What does snowing have to do with lizards?
Well, when you are 5, missing your 4 front teeth, don't know the right word and are really, really excited about all the snow falling outside...it's a lizard!

Saturday, December 2, 2006 - Flowers
Cameron has realized a wonderful way to please his mama. This summer was filled with surprises. Flowers! Any chance he got this summer, he would pick flowers for me. They mostly were dandelions and clover, with the occasional daisy or wildflower. He would make me close my eyes for a surprise, or he would leave them where he knew I was sure to find them. On my seat in the car, at my desk, in the bathroom.
I was sure to make a big deal over each and every one because I really do like these types of gifts. I don't need the big expensive bouquets and lavish arrangements. A jar full of dandelions, to me, says, "I was thinking about you and wanted to tell you how much I love you."
One would think that with the cold weather that my flower getting time is at a standstill. But it has just changed the form of my flowers.
Here is a picture Cameron drew of me, with a flowers on my dress, "Because I know how much you like flowers, Mama." (and I just noticed that I'm drawn in green, which he knows is my favorite color.)

A picture of me with a lovely flower. See my happy face.

A very important message from CAMERON with a picture of him giving me a flower to make me smile.

I love these surprises That I have gotten this week as much as the real life flowers.

Monday, October 16, 2006 - Flattery Will Get You Far
I was just finishing putting our fish dinner in the oven
Cameron: I like watching you cook.
Mama: Do you? (pleased)
C: Yes, I can learn how to make stuff.
M: That's a good way to learn stuff. (very pleased)
By now I had moved to the computer to sit down for a few minutes
C: Did you know I like watching you do lots of things?
M: Oh yeah?
C: Yeah, like playing games on the pluter...are you going to play a game now?
M: No. Did you want me to?
C: Yes! You're very good. (pause) How about Clifford? (one of his computer games)
M: (chuckles) How about you give me a few minutes to check a few things and then you can play Clifford.
C: I want to watch you because you're super good.
M: (the light bulb is turning on) Did you want me to get you past that one part that you were having problems with the other day?
C: YES!!!
LOL And it was a kind of hard spot to get past. Does this kid know how to butter his mama up or what?

Wednesday, September 27, 2006 - Man in Training
Mama: Where did you get that shirt?
Cameron: From the basket
Mama: Did you know those are dirty?
Cameron: Yeah, but I like this shirt.
Moral of the man's story: If it looks good and smells alright and it's your favorite wear it.
C: Mom, I broke my muscle this morning.
M: You did?
C: Yeah, right here (points to just above his elbow) I hit it on the shelf in the fridge.
M: I bet that did hurt. That is your funny bone and it isn't very funny is it.
C: Oh (giggle) I thought I broke my muscle, but its JUST my funny bone. (more giggles)
Already worried about his muscles.

Thursday, August 3, 2006 - You Crack Me Up
I don't know about you, but my son says some of the funniest things. At least to me.
Today he came to me with a problem. He had a little battery powered car that had an attached remote to make it go forward and backward. He felt that it needed new batteries because it wasn't working. Instead of fixing it for him, I gave him a screwdriver and told him to see what he could do. He got it opened after awhile to his great satisfaction. Then he promptly asked me for new batteries (I got a slew of rechargeable batteries for Christmas) But it still wasn't working. He tried some other things and with a little help from me he found out that one of the wires was not attached to its metal part any longer and therefore was not making a full circuit. I told him that I was sorry but this was the end of his car.
Cameron: (said about 5 times) But I just got it for Christmas.
Mama: I heard you the first several times
C: And I'll probably say it several more times.
M: (LOL) You crack me up. (It doesn't translate well in print but it was VERY funny in person)
C: I know, I crack myself up.
M: (ROFL)
C: Well, I really do!

Saturday, May 6, 2006 - Contraption
"Mama, Mama, come see my contraption!"
I think there was an episode of Blue's Clues that had contraptions and ever since he has been interested in contraptions. His contraption? He has a toddler slide that we are going to give away now that we have a swing set. He pushed that slide up against the big slide and was rolling different things down the big slide. A golf ball, a baseball, a bouncy ball, and his dump truck. We both played around with his contraption for a while. Little did he know that we were having a science lesson! And he is the one that came up with the idea.

Here is a picture of us doing school work this morning. I suddenly had a new student. I'm just glad he was the model student who sat there and was quiet.

Wednesday, April 5, 2006 - Visit to the Doctors
My DS is 5. He just turned 5 in February. We haven't been to the doctor's since he turned 4. And the doctor said not to come back until he turns 6. That's the plan.
As he is getting older, they are checking more things. This was the first that he has had his hearing checked, and his eyesight. And our very first experience with peeing in a cup. Although he had to drink up some water because, as he said at attempt number one, "See, it's empty!"
Praise God for good health!

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 - Fruit Soup
Once upon a time there were two boys named CAMERON AND ADRIAN. They dicided to TAKE A WALK. They went for a walk IN THE WOODS. When they walked into the forest they saw A DOOR. A mysterious door. Should they open the door? YES THEY DO!
Adrian opens the door and they see A SPOOKEY OLD TREE WITH SCARY LOOKING MOUTH AND A HOLE FOR A NOSE AND TWO MEAN EYES. Cameron and Adrian decide to CRAWL DOWN THE HOLE THAT LOOKS LIKE A NOSE. Once they are inside the tree they CLIMB UP TO LOOK OUT THE EYEBALLS. [insert lots of giggling] They look out the holes in the tree and see A STORE FAR AWAY. Should they go to the store? YES THEY DO.
They walk all the way out of the forest and over a hill to the store. They go into the store and buy PINEAPPLES AND GRAPES AND STRAWBERRIES AND MUSTARD. After they bought their food the decided to TAKE THE FOOD HOME. Once there they PUT THE MUSTARD IN THE FRIDGE FOR LATTER. They cut up the PINEAPPLES AND GRAPES AND STRAWBERRIES and they made fruit SOUP. [insert more giggling] The fruit soup was DELICIOUS.
The End.

Wednesday, March 29, 2006 - In the car
We are in the car a lot on Sundays and Wednesdays. Church is about a 40 minute drive one way. Usually Wednesdays on the way we work on his current Bible verse for class. Sunday mornings on the way to, he is usually very quiet and looking out the window for points of interest and usually eating his breakfast, a bag of dry cereal.
But in the dark on the way home is when the fun begins. Sometimes we listen to his tapes. Sometimes we listen to mine. Sometimes he asks for it to be quiet. Sometimes we just talk about this or that. Or he asks a million and one questions. But now we have found a new activity that I'm excited about.
I got the idea to make up a story together. He would fill in the "blanks" Here is our story. His words in caps.
Once upon a time there was a boy named CAMERON. He and his mama went to the SHOPPING STORE. While they were at the shopping store they looked at the BIKES. Mama decided to buy Cameron a bike. They paid for the bike with A TRAIN. The cashier gave them back a CLOWN. When Cameorn and mama got home they decide to take the bike on a TRIP. They went to CALIFORNIA. It took them (asked to give me a number) 4 days to get to California. When they finally got there, they were very TIRED AND HUNGRY.
Then I tried to get us to eat something at a resturaunt but he said that we brought food with us to eat.
