Dear Chris...

Posted at 11:59 PM on Jul. 14, 2007

The only point in this post is to respond to a few of Chris’s beliefs.

So, this post is mainly geared and is written to and for Chris. But I encourage everyone to comment their thoughts.

I would greatly appreciate it if you would pull your bible out, for I am going to be addressing several verses. It is important that you look up every one of these verses. I pray that you’ll read this with a clear mind and actually consider the fact that you might be wrong.

  1. The co-existence issue
  2. The flawed Christianity issue
  3. The homosexual is not a sin issue

I’ve brought all of this to my dad and he has helped me with these responses.

First, off, the co-existence issue – you said that:

“It shows symbols from many different forms of worship including Islam, Judaism, Shinto, and Christianity. It is a symbol popularized by U2. It is a call for members of all creeds to live together in peace and harmony. In other words, to "Coexist". I believe one day this will happen, and I plan to do my part to make it happen.”

As I think about this, Chris, you may be right. All of these religions may very well co-exist in harmony someday. However, the Christianity that would co-exist with all of these other religions in harmony would be an apostate form of true Christianity. In other words, true Christianity could never – and will never – co-exist in harmony with the others. You have to realize, Chris, that all the other religions deny the Lordship of Jesus Christ as described in the Protestant bible you claim to believe in. Jesus Christ and His disciples (those who wrote the New Testament) emphatically claimed that Jesus Himself was the only way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father but through Jesus Christ (Jn 14:6).

So here on Earth in this temporal realm, these different religions (including apostate Christianity as mentioned above) may find a way to co-exist peacefully amongst each other some day, but in the eternal realm, the only faith which will exist is the one that God (Jesus Christ) established – Christianity. Sadly, I guess it could be said that the others will also co-exist throughout eternity – but only in Hell (Matt 7:13, 14).

If you truly are a Christian your focus should not be to “do your part in getting all religions to co-exist”, your focus should be to advance the true gospel of Jesus Christ.

Point two, Chris, is the flawed Christianity issue. You said that:

“I believe that Christianity as a religion, is deeply corrupt and flawed.”

I’m not quite sure what you mean by your statement but here are my thoughts on your remarks. Biblically, or from God’s perspective, God does not view Christianity as a religion – He views it simply as the Truth. Now if you mean that “Christiandom” (or the Christian community) has its flaws or is corrupt, then I can agree with you to some extent here. Let me explain what I mean.

  1. Christiandom is made up of Christians who are imperfect, and thus the community of Christians is an “organism” that is imperfect and flawed because it is made up of individuals who are imperfect and flawed.
  2. These flawed Christians hold to doctrines which don’t always agree with each other, and of course, two opposing views cannot both be right at the same time. Therefore, some doctrines within Christiandom must be wrong.

However, if we accept that God and His word are both inerrant and infallible and we further accept that Christianity was established and defined by God’s word, then Christianity cannot be flawed and corrupt as originally established by God and His word since both God and His word are perfect.

Issue number three, Chris, is the homosexuality issue. You said that:

“I believe that being gay is not a sin, but that being a practicing gay is a sin.”

Here are my thoughts on this: You are wrong on the first count but correct on the second. Being gay is a sinful state of existence. It’s a corrupt state of existence. It is a state of existence that is the direct result of the fall recorded in Genesis chapter 3. In this sense, homosexuality can be said to be “a natural result” of Adam’s sin. It is natural in this sense only. But if we want to talk about God’s ideal and the way God originally created man and the rest of creation, then homosexuality is not natural (aberrant). The bible always speaks of homosexuality (whether the state of or the act itself) as evil – an abomination to the LORD. (Lev 18: 22) The bible also describes homosexuality as something that God always judges or will ultimately judge as a wicked sin. (Genesis 19, Romans 1)

One more thought to keep in mind: no where in the bible does God’s word ever make the kind of distinction that your above statement has made, separating the state of being gay as opposed to the practice of being gay (condoning one and condemning the other).

I do agree with a few of your beliefs like pre-destination and Calvinism. So, don’t feel like we are all “against” you. The true goal in this is not to stunt you blog traffic by warning people against you or slam you publicly to make us look smart. But to come alongside you and help you. Please consider all that I have said and pray about it.

Paul

Well-Said

Posted by JacqueDixonSoulRestES at 1:29 AM on Jul. 15, 2007
You did just what is necessary to shed light on these subjects... you got out the Word.
It is all well and good to have our beliefs and even to share them... or to be upset that one is taking God's Word out of context -or totally denying the Truth altogether. It is an entirely different thing to get out the Word and go through it, line by line, and actually look at what God, in His Perfect Way, said about these things and discuss them.
I have been to Chris's blog several times, and I think he has a good heart and a genuine love for people. I really do. I also think that there are some serious issues that he would do well to get out the Word and blog about it, because I think he is also a smart kid who loves God.
We all have to grow up and not just stay "fun" forever... it is really best to allow God to use the "teen years" to show you many things to grow and mature in. He has so much more for our lives than the world does, but most of us miss it, because we aren't willing to do the old "leaving the world behind". It is much better to do it now than to have to do it as an adult.
I truly wish Chris the Best that God has for him.
Blessings,
Mrs. D

Paulie,

I am so proud of your reply to Chris. You are a very courageous young man, and I applaud your ability to speak the truth in love. I'm sure your parents are extremely proud of you, and giving thanks to God for sending you to be their son. I'm also very excited to hear about the new baby God's sending to your family. Just think of all the wonderful things you'll be able to teach the Little Guy. :0)

Blessings from another homeschool family in El Paso, TX!

Hey man i really appreciate you taking the time to do this! This is great that those who disagree with me are trying to come up with arguments. I still think you are wrong, but that's cool. Just so we can get along and you don't say i'm going to hell :)

Believe it or not, I did think before i said those things. And I still hold to them.

1. All people should live in peace regardless of religious beliefs.

2. Christian church's always have some flaw in their doctrine.

3. Being attracted to the same sex is a problem, not a sin. There is no way anyone can say that a gay person trying to get help, is sinning.

Wow, Paulie....

So, by bringing the Word into this whole thing of "BELIEFS vs. OPINIONS", Chris just basically said that the Bible is completely false in the 2 Biblically-proven issues. (The 3rd is an issue of semantics, and I am still not sure if we know what Chris is referring to, though I agree with what you said about it.)

Hmmmmm. I wonder if he realizes that he said he disagrees with what the verses in the Bible say, and if he does, if he would actually admit to it. He referred to this as "an argument, trying to prove him wrong', in not so many words, instead of something that God HIMSELF gave instruction in.

Hence, the third count....
There is no way anyone can say that a gay person trying to get help, is sinning. (and, actually, is he playing semantics, with the whole "trying to get help" thing?)
Um, I think someone, REALLY important in all of this 'he said, she said' stuff, already said that it IS SIN....
GOD said it. At least He did in MY Bible.

Keep searching for truth, but only trust THE TRUTH.

First you did a great job of being loving in this post. You went about it in a Biblical way. That is so great that your dad helped you. Not that you needed much help. ; )
Second the verses you used were good for the points you are making.
You did a great job of bringing the Word into this whole situation. The truth is the truth. You CANNOT change it. When you bring in the Word you can't go wrong.
What Chris and others don't realize is that by approving the SIN of homosexuality, they are condeming themselves to the homosexuals judgement. (Romans 1:32)
God is a righteous judge and He will not allow sinful creatures to continue with being sinful.
I don't think this whole thing is even about 'who is against who', its about the truth.
When someone is promoting something that is not true, that person is leading others astray. And that is wrong.
When dealing with situations like these, everyone needs to do their research in what is being said, to make sure it is right.
Obviously, Chris doesn't care about what you believe. He believes what he believes and no one or thing will change it. He just wants our beliefs to "coexist", like he said. So does that mean that his religion is different than ours??
Like you said, we are not "ganging up"on Chris. We are just trying to help him with his walk. But it doesn't seem like he wants too much help....
Thank you for getting the Word out and letting everyone know what GOD said. That is really all that matters.
As Always,

Hey, just thought I'd jump in. I am always present in controversy. ;-)

I think that what Chris is trying to say is that it's not a sin for someone to have a homosexual impulse, but it's only sinful if they act on it. Just as if I were walking past a cookie jar, and I have the impulse to take the cookie. It's only a sin if I actually act upon my impulse and steal the cookie, rather than the actual impulse being sinful. Does that make sense??

I hope, Chris, that I am accurately presenting your views here, but that is just what I perceived from what you wrote. I will refrain from adding my own opinion in all of this, I just want to make sure that everyone understands each other.

Pax Christi,
Sylvia

PS I enjoyed visiting your blog, btw, Paul. :-) You make some good points. God bless!!

i hope you all read the post i just made. it may clear some things up.

I just use Notepad for writing HTML...not that I have written much of it. For all the templates I have done so far, I have just used the HSB ones as a base.

But I am going to start making templates from scratch...I hope that works out. :)

P.S. Do you know how to make flash animations? I was wanting to learn how, but I wouldn't know where to start. Do you have any suggestions?

I posted this on Chris's Blog:

"I saw your comment on Paul's blog, and I just want touch on your view of homosexuality.

As with all sins, if you commit them then you will go to hell, unless you are forgiven. The way to be forgiven is to repent. But repentance is not the only thing you have to do, you have to repent and turn from your sin!

The Bible states that homosexuality is a sin. Its just like lying. How many times do you have to lie to become a lire Chris? If you are homosexual then you are sinning. It doesn't matter if you are trying to receive help for that problem, homosexuality = sin. If you receive Christ, and turn from that wrong attitude (which is a choice, not a birth defect) then you can receive Christs forgiveness.

I'm not sure why you brought homosexuality up in the first place, are you a homosexual?"

That was very gracefully written, Paul. It's also great that you had verses to support what you were saying.

So, from your last paragraph can I take the first sentence to mean that you're a Calvinist?? ;) Because if you are, you rock! If not, go read your Bible 7 times on your knees from start to finish and tell me, when you're done, how you *don't* see the doctrines of grace brightly shining through. :D

Hope you're having a good summer.

~ Boy, I've Been Missing Out...~

Well, what do you know - I'm sure you're still busier than me, but you beat me to a dissertation of such tenor! That's NJAO quality. I've got more offline things going on, so I've been distracted from the internet - I just barely got my most recent post made.

You know what that argument brings to my mind, Paul? Cultural immersion. People only have to hear smooth talking, keep-controversy-low-key expert advice so many times to start believing it. So many people, in attempts of taking the bitter out of the bittersweetness of the "Pilgrim's Progress" so to speak (sin burden to repentance to forgiveness) that they will say anything.

It's the evolutionary influence that suggests that mankind isn't necessarily morally flawed, but rather can't get out of what their genes encode - in that view, our lives are animalistic and relative. Blame and free will diminish from recognition. If you can't acknowledge sin, you can't acknowledge salvation. Sad, isn't it?

I've reserved www.amandaread.com. We shall see what comes of it.
