HELP!

Hi, I know I've not blogged for a long time, things have been rather hectic though they are slowly calming down now. Baby Deborah is 8 weeks old now (doesn't time fly) and she's quite a settled baby.

I am really struggling though, I feel like I should be doing more things/being more structured in my home schooling. My eldest dd is 6 and it is sometimes a struggle to get them working, though apart from a gr8 maths curriculum which I will be starting end of this month I'm kinda at a loss. I have teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons and that did go well then she got bored after a week (this was a few months ago) I know I need a good basic teaching your child to read or phonics program or both but there are so many things out there and we have so little money and I'm beginning to feel like I'm just not achieving anything, I think I need something with little preparation as time is very short these days with 4 little blessings to take care of and I try to help out in my dh business.  I also feel like I need a complete curriculum or is maths and english enough at this age? And how do you incorporate it all into your life? I really struggle to get the children to sit down and do the school work at times, I'm just pulling my hair out.

On a good note we have a few good outings planned for next few months which I'm looking forward too I could just do with some general encouragement and advice - plus I've just started taking my eldest dd (6) to a dancing class and she seems to have integration problems - not being used to integrating with other chldren I really do feel a bit of a failure at the moment.

Very belated congrats for little Deborah!!
My little girl certainly doesn't intergrate that well, but it has nothing to do with schooling, shes shy!! Don't beat yourself up there are lots of shy children in schools and children who are nervous and un confident, It's not as if shes an only child. I really would not worry. My little girl goes to a christian dance group which is taught by an extremely talented
lady who homeschools herself. She is really happy to allow my 5 nearly 6 year old her own space. I always stay with her which is accepted as perfectly normal. Please don't feel a failure.

If you do what you know to do and trust God for the rest I'm sure you will find your curriculum
Have you thought about using a theme or topic to work around. I don't spend alot,Enhchanted learning online is ace worth subscribing.

hi Sarah
I just read your entry and felt compelled to reply. I have been where you are and completely know how hard it is to juggle everything and homeschool. My advice to you would be to chill out as much as possble, not get bogged down in doing loads of different subjects. Just concentrate on maths and English, play games and read to them all loads. The pressure to fill all the time with every other subject even at a young age is having a negative impact in schools. Kids are leaving primary school unable to read and write properly because the basics are not being covered well enough.
Isaac my 6 year old does about 1- 11/2 hours a day of just maths, reading book and writing practice. I'm also covering some other basic skills in English with him. That's definitely enough for him at the minute. He wouldn't cope very well with much more yet.Sianne's excellent idea of covering a theme or reading book to look into different things is a good and cheap way to broaden your curriculum.
Anyway speaking as the emotional yo-yo queen I know what it feels like to feel rubbish, but trust me you are not. If God has called you to home school he will show you what he wants you to teach your children and although the academics will come into it He's more interested in the big picture and the fact that your desire is to raise them in a Godly home and to love Him with all their little hearts.
Hope my ramblings have been of some use and if I can help in any other way let me know.
Love Deb
Ps. are you going on the Nottingham Castle trip? If you are see you there.
