May. 7, 2007 - Some Items of Interest
This is a bit of a random post of what I've been doing.
Today I planted my tulip bulbs in my little garden. It was pretty hard work. I had about 50-60 bulbs to plant! I've also got 6 different types of beaded irises, 6 pink and white daffodils and some ranunculi. I'll to post a photo of the garden when all the flowers are out.
I've been working on my family tree a lot lately.(My grandfather's fathers side) It's going pretty well, and I haven't got much more to go. By well I mean I've been able to go back eleven generations. Pretty good eh? My great-great(eight or nine times) grandfather was born in 1713, so that almost 300 years ago! I couldn't get the year his wife was born. They had 4 children and lived in Somerset, England. My great-great-great grandparents came to Australia in 1853. I got a lot of that sort of information from Ancestry. com. It's a very helpful site.
It's been so interesting, and because I like history so much it's right up my alley.
Last Friday I started the tennis winter pennant, at the indoor centre. This year there are nine teams, to last years six. Our team has six members,(though you only need four we had to have 6 because of the boys being away for the next few weeks) me Bibleman, Burger, the two boys who played and won with my brothers last year and a girl who lives in a town about an hour away.
We had a great start:we lost all our sets! Well I am a bit rusty after not playing for three weeks. And the others were a bit too. So we didn't do too badly considering we got about 20 games and they got 36.
Anyway, have to go now, it getting late but I'll try to write more next time I'm on
May. 2, 2007 - Another Tag
Tagged by OceanaJones and BobaFett. I hope this dosn't bore you, but once I start writing I get carried away! and end up doing twice as much as I should. Anyway here goes:
(1.) What is your middle name? All I'm saying is I don't like it.
(2.) Do you like you first name? if you could change your name what would change it to? Yes, I like it. Even if it's not perfect, there are worse names around that I'm so glad I was not called. I'm sure what I would change it to. It's hard to imagine youself called anything but the name you are.
(3.) What is your pets name? (If you don't have one) What would you name a pet if you had one? Goldie(our female Golden Retriver)
(4.) What are your favorite books in the world? Race to the Pole, Shout it from Housetops, Rose in Bloom, Eight Cousins, Endurance, Monster, Seven Wonders of the Industrial World, Piercing the Darkness, Going Solo, St Bartholomew's Eve, Cheaper by the Dozen, In Freedom's Cause, the Adventures Down Under series and the Young Underground series, all Biggles books, Flying Blind and The Legand of Annie Murphy, to name a few!
(5.) What is your dream house? hmm... well I know what ISN'T my dream house! Since I want to have farm when I'm older I'd love to have one of those big old farmhouses.
(6.) Do you enjoy being the age that you are? (If not) What age would you preffer to be if you could go forward in time right now? yes, I think being 16 is not too bad. I don't know how old I'll be when I get my pilot's licence, but I knew, I would go forward to that age
(7.) Do you have any siblings? (if so) Do you enjoy having siblings? How many kids do you want when you grow up? Yes, I have three brothers and two sisters, and yes I enjoy having siblings. But I'm sort of the odd one out, because my brothers 14 and nearly 12 are always together and so are my sisters 9 and nearly 7. And then there's my little brother, 3, who either plays with himself or them! But me and my sisters share the same room and we love talking, sometime til pretty late at night! By now they know a lot that I know, because every night they say,"What's the news?" and I tell them anything interesting I've learned that day.
Well, I'd probably like about 10 but I wouldn't object to any more after that!
(8.) Do you enjoy to cook? (If so) What is your favorite thing to cook? I don't really like cooking, but if I have to I'm capable of it! (One thing: I'm an expert piklet fryer. Burger makes the batter, which I can't and I cook them, which he can't!)I do prefer making dessert type of foods rather than savory. Usually whatever I make people like, although I have tendancy to undersalt things.
My favorite thing to cook would probably be Sticky Date Cake with Butterscotch Sauce.
(9.) What girl names do you like? Imogen, Lucie, Anastasia, Mikayla, Hollie, Shavahn, Larissa, Dana, Tracey...
(10.) What boy names do you like? Lucas, Harrison, Spencer, Dylan...there really aren't too many that I like(I mean the one around are nice but they've been used too many times, so they sound plain and uninteresting. I am going to use more unusual and uncommon names for my children) and I lost the list of name I like so I'll add more if I find it.
(11.) What is your favorite colour? Give three adjectives "Why?". At the moment it would have to be green. Since that rain, the wintergrass has been coming up and it's so lovely to see
(12.) Who are the bloggers that you are going to tag next? Wolfgirl, Burger, PadmeAmidala, Kaitlynn7m,Striker
Apr. 21, 2007 - Photo at last!
Finally! I've posted a sunset photo! Hope I can post some more soon. My brother showed me how to shrink them, so I hope I can do it myself next time.
I've been working on a family tree and history with my grandparents help. They've got a whole cabinet full of photos, letters and information that had already been researched. And of course can tell a lot about their parents and themselves, which is very valuable. I've wanted to do that for a long time, but hadn't got around to it. It does take a lot of time and effort but I'm getting there. I'm and doing Pop's side of the family at the moment. I've been able to go back six generations. I'm just putting down all the information that's there and I'll put it in order we I get home.

Contrary to what I said in my last entry I'm not having a blogging holiday. 'Cause while everyone is busy elsewhere I can go longer than usual and they won't notice so much! For his birthday one of our uncles gave Pop a new computer, including new keyboard, speakers and moniter(it's a flatscreen. They're the best! I don't like looking at those curving screens of the other type of moniter).
I'll try to write a summary of what we did when I get back. I'm keeping a journal this year so I can use that to help. I don't feel like writing more just now. Hope you enjoyed the tag!
Apr. 3, 2007 - Farwell!!
This is my last entry for a while. We are going to our grandparents farm in north-eastern NSW, for Pop's 70th birthday. We will be gone for about two and a half weeks. We leave on the 5th. A lot of our relatives (that I only hear about) will be there which is why Mum is making an effort to go.(One of our uncles is even coming from the U.S.) We went up there six months ago, but before that it was eight years! I don't particularly want to go but it will be a good opportunity to see everyone in one spot. I guess the worst trial is the trip. It's about 16 hours. You just seem to be going on forever and you wonder how long you can put up with it before you scream. Anyway I guess it will be worth it. My aunt's place is about halfway there so we'll stay overnight. I'll take some books and my maths book and stuff like that to do in my spare time. Mum, my sisters, little brother and me will come back after the two weeks, but my other 2 brothers will stay on for another month. So I will be the only active blogger for a while!
Because I'm gone dosn't mean you don't have to comment. I want heaps of comments by the time I get back!
I think I might be able to post some pics tomorrow. Have to go now.
Mar. 30, 2007 - The things people say.......
O.K FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!! I've done an entry! I could remember most of what I'd written yesterday so that was good. I know what to do for next time.
I think I'll do a entry about what peolpe say to us about homeschooling.
Well in the first place some are very suprised and others have heard about it so they're not as suprised. Since my two brothers and I (and recently my little sister) play tennis tournaments and pennent we get asked that question fairly frequently. When we were younger they asked, "Do you get to sleep in?" Then, I said no, I like to get up early, although sometimes it harder if it's cold or the day seems boring. Once my brother said he slept til 11:00 and the boy was shocked! Another time someome said "Don't you go to school because you're too poor?" Well..........I said no but I didn't how to explain it. Then, a few years later the question was "Do you get to do the computer a lot?" Well, now I do!! Then, I didn't have much reason to.('course we don't get unlimited time)! I don't know how much or what schoolchildren do but it probably isn't as fun as this!! Now they're asking me (since I'm getting older), "Have you been homeshcooled all your life?" As if it's stranger being taught at home for 10 rather than 5 or 6 years. I can't figure it out. I mean aren't the ones who've been doing it for 5 or 6 years going to be doing for 10 or more years? And then there's the usual, "Will you be going to collage/university?" We answer with the usual, "We haven't thought that far ahead." And then recently some tennis friends and Burger were talking and one(A), whose always curious, was asking questions. Sometimes my brother dosn't know how to explain everything and he told them to quiet. And I don't blame him. You'd probably have to give an hour lecture for them to start to understand. Anyway another boy(B)came up and got into the convasation. In the course of it he said, "If I had six kids OF COURSE I would homeschool because it would be too expensive otherwise."! Then he said to (A), "Why do you go to school?" (A) answered, "To learn." (B) said, "Why does he do homeschool? To learn." I think that was the end of the debate. For that day anyway!
On another note: I got my L plates about 3 weeks ago. There are 320 questions and 32 are randomly chosen for the test and there are multiple choice answers. You can do practice tests on the web so, get this, Mum made me do it nine times to try to cover all the questions. In those nine goes I got between 0 and 5 wrong which was bad seeing as you only have to get 25 right. When I did the test I was extremely careful, and.......I got 100%!!!! Well, I guess I had to with all that practice and the answers drilled into my head. So I've been drive around the local area;for instance. we we go to have our tennis practice at our small town 10km away. I've got heap of 'instrcutors' since the others always insist on coming with me. Here's some of their helpful advice. "Go faster!" "Step on it!" "I could drive better than that." "Overtake!"(Yeah right)
Anyway, hope you enjoyed that.
Mar. 23, 2007 - First Entry
Hello Everyone,
O.K., what should I start with? My brother, 'Burger' has been onto me about starting a blog for a long time (like, the last few months) and and I've finally got around to doing it! One thing I've wanted to do, is show my sunrise/set photos to people other than my family(they don't take as much interest now,(Mum does), probably because I've taken too many, more than 300 since we got our digital camera two years ago!) I also like stamp collecting(if there was a fire the first things I would grab would be my two albums) gardening (I like growing bulbs) tennis and listening to music. We moved from Canberra to Victoria three years ago.
P.S. To Burger's friends, I'm well aquainted with your blogs because I check them every time I'm on the computer. I've been reading them as long as he's had his blog. There're very interesting I must say. So now I can comment all I want!!!!!
P.P.S. Do you like my blog design? Please comment!
For now,
Dawn90
