Breath of Fresh Air
|
It's been a difficult week to say the least! Braden and I both came down with horrible colds over the weekend, right on the tailend of Benjamin's croup. Knowing we had already taken off two weeks to visit family, did one week of school, then took a week for Thanksgiving, I didn't feel like I could really miss any more school right now. So we plunged in this week. It did not go well! Braden has been very difficult to deal with. Everything has been a struggle, from getting dressed in the morning to math worksheets to getting along with his brother. I've been very frustrated and even depressed this week trying to figure out how to handle this sudden disinterest in schoolwork and good behavior. I spent much of Tuesday in tears and prayer and yesterday wasn't much better. Brady and I finally decided last night to take away ALL of Braden's privileges until he could prove that he could behave and work diligently. He lost all TV, video games, computer, everything. In the afternoons, he had to either nap or read a book. After dinner, it was shower and bedtime. I was expecting to have to carry this on for several days until we got back to an even keel. But today, Braden woke up fresh and ready to go. Now I'm not saying he was perfect ( ), but today has gone so much better! Instead of doing school from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm with only a break for lunch, we started at 9:00 am and by 11:30 we were DONE!! Praise God! Braden was cooperative and well-behaved. He did his work with little or no complaining and we had fun doing it. So as a reward for his behavior, he is getting to watch Frosty the Snowman with Benjamin before lunch.Days like today make all the bad days worth it. Earlier this week, I felt like quitting and putting Braden in school come January. But thank God, I know that I am called to this lifestyle and want to pursue it, even with the bad days! |
