The joys of a dollar

I found out recently just how far my dollar will go! While Brady took the boys shopping for Mother's Day, I took Ethan to the Dollar Tree. We wandered around the store, looking at this and that. I had a few dollars cash with me (a very rare thing, if you know me!) and decided I would surprise the older boys with a treat. I headed off to the toy section and found almost immediately the perfect toy! For those of you who have more than one child, you understand the necessity of each child having the same toy. (Now this doesn't always happen, obviously, but there are times when it makes life easier, like say, McDonald's toys.) What I found was a Pirate set. Each set contained an eyepatch, compass (it doesn't work, btw. Brady tested it.), earring, a spyglass and a dagger. This, I knew would be perfect for my pirate-loving boys. So I tossed two sets into the cart and headed to check out. Needless to say, when they returned to the van and found these in their seats, they were thrilled. I waited until the next morning to open the treasures and helped the boys get dressed up. My two sweet boys were instantly transformed into dangerous pirates. ![]() ![]() ![]() But here's the best part: For only $2, plus tax, I bought an entire day's play time! Once they were decked out, the boys retreated to Benny's room and proceeded to battle each other, defend our house in united battle and altogether perform great acts of piracy for the rest of the day. I had to practically threaten them to come eat their lunch. And Benjamin didn't want to nap until I let him sleep with his dagger. So for those of you who say a dollar can't get you much of anything, I dare you to check out the toy section of Dollar Tree (or another dollar store near you). You may be surprised what you can buy! |
