My husband went away for the week last night and today begins the next few crazy days of managing on my own. I have never had to stay on my own with the kids before and instead of heading off to my parents I thought I would brave it.
As I went to sleep last night after making sure everything was locked up and switched off and had stopped hearing noises that weren't there I realised again how easy it is take our dear men for granted. They may be at work all day but their prescence in the home and the peace and security they bring are never more noticable when they are not here. It is very rare that my hubby has to go away and for that I am very grateful but I thank God with all my heart for him and all our guys out there who do an amazing job leading us and providing for us.
JUST HURRY UP HOME SOON!!!!!!!

Amen to that! I just adore my husband and usually take him for granted. I don't mean to, but with the hustle and bustle of daily life, it's easy to do. Know what I did for him this Valentine's Day? I wrote 365 things that I loved about him on individual strips of paper and put them in a basket. Each day before he heads off to work he reads one of them. It's great because he leaves for work very early in the morning before I even get up...it allows him to read it and really take time to think about what I've written to him. He loves it and I'm glad it was such a success! (Can't say it was an easy task though - thinking of 365 things was easy, but figuring out whether I repeated any as I was typing them out was hard. ha ha) Anyhow, hope your time apart from him is quick and that you both appreciate each other even more than you already do once you're together again.

You are so right - our men fill a very important role that goes beyond being the "bread earners". I often have dh away for a couple of nights at a time and am constantly amazed at the difference it makes. I truly do not know how single parents find the strength to cope. I pray that the next few days bring unexpected blessings, and that his return is so much sweeter.

Amen! You are right that it is easy to take our husbands for granted. I am like you...when he is not here I even sleep with the lights on! Makes me appreciate him all the more. Thank you for your very sweet comment on my blog today; it meant a lot.

Praying for you... I hate it when hubby is gone too... I try to use the time with the Lord though, and have realized how much I rely on my hubby for things, instead of the Lord... you know... go to bed knowing my husband is there to protect us?... May this time be a peaceful time for you as well.
Blessings,
Amy

Hey! came across your blog while following the brouhaha over the upcoming TOS visit. Another Brit, and a midwife too! I thought I was the only one, are there any more like us?
I live in West London, and strictly speaking I'm not a Brit at all as I don't have a drop of English blood in my veins (that I know of), used to work at Queen Charlottes, but am the happy mum of 4 boys now, and thats more than enough to be getting on with.
Great to find your blog, I've bookmarked it! Clare

Sorry, ain't got no blog, I just lurk around other peoples! I am really intrigued as to how you all manage to do that? Even the uber mummys with 38 children blog, where am I going wrong?!
Maybe, one day, when I get my ducks in a row, I'll start blogging. But, problem: Since I'm a Christian I can't lie and make my life look witty and interesting. I spend most of my day like this: Wander upstairs, pause, forget what I came up there for, go back downstairs to retrace my footprints so I can remember, and so on. I'd much rather read about all you lot and be inspired.
Great to come across a fellow Limey though! My name is Clare by the way. Shall I give you my email, is it safe to put it here? Will I be targeted by mindreds of Nigerian scammers if I do ?
happy blogging, and very nice to make your (cyber) aquaintance!

Mar. 12, 2006 - Created to be his Helpmeet

A friend of mine introduced me to this book. Although I have not read all the way through this book, I have learned a great deal about my husband's personality and the way I can become the Helpmeet he needs.
I am totally NOT there in the slightest and every day is a new day to renew my commitment to my dh. He works so hard and yet I take him for granted so easily.
I think I'll tell him that tonight! Thanks for posting!
