For some reason a few of my children stumbled with reading the "o" and "w" combination as "ow".
So, I pinch them.
(Just a tiny, pretend pinch.) As they are reading along and come to an "ow" word, I give a playful pinch on the arm. The first time I explain that "o" and "w" say "Ow!" just like we say "Ow!" when pinched! After the first time or two, the "mock pinch" is enough reminder alone, and I don't have to interrupt the flow of their reading. Within a few weeks, they start to smile and put their hand over their arm before they even get to the word--that's when I know they've outgrown the need for a prompt.
For now, Keegan's having fun with "ow"s.
When he gets to words like "cow", "wow", "how" or "now" there's sure to be a quick pretend pinch, followed by his perfect pronunciation of the word (and a giggle).
