Hi, Cathy! It was my 100mm macro, which isn't a zoom, but generally considered a "close up" lens, most often used for up close shots of flowers or insects.
I was about 2-3 feet from the little bunny. We have them all over here, and I often watch them in our driveway. I've noticed that when approached they sometimes flee, and sometimes "freeze". They blend in well with brown prairie colors, if they "freeze", so evidently it sometimes works for them.
On the morning I took that picture I saw about 5 of them in our driveway and yard, and determined that I'd go out and try to get one that would freeze instead of flee. Most fled just as I got in "shooting distance", or about 4 feet away. This one froze though, so I was able to get in position by squatting down and slowly moving forward. He let me fire off a dozen shots, and then scampered off to tell his family about the crazy person he'd just escaped!
I've been wanting to try to get one to pose for me on the grass, but haven't been able to yet.
They do get pretty brave though. It seems I'm often within 2 feet of them when I don't have my camera--often just when I head out to the barn for something or walk down to check the mail.
