Dec. 6, 2007 - Jingle Bell Rock & Letterboxing
Every year my kids and I go in search of the "Jingle Bell Rock" that a local radio station hides. If you are the one that finds it you win a car and other prizes. This year it was found within 7 days. So, my kids were disappointed that they didn't get to search. So, a friend and I decided to tell our kids about letterboxing. We were going to start tomorrow but my kids were so excited we started today. We came up with a name and made our stamp. We printed the list of local boxes and their clues and headed out. The kids had so much fun! We want to hide our own boxes. Have you ever been letter boxing? I'd love to hear about your experiences. The kids can't wait to go again. As soon as I get my pictures uploaded I'll post some of the kids today.

Nov. 10, 2007 - Community Service?
What is community service? How do you define it? Today Rebecca decided to perform community service sort of... She decided to have her hair cut for Locks of Love. She is giving about 15 inches. If you know Rebecca you know she doesn't like to work. She was able to help others by being pampered, hmm. So, is that community service? I'll let you be the judge.

Oct. 19, 2007 - The Lost
Do you ever have those days where you lose something and you find it in a place you looked a million times? That was today! We were looking for soccer uniforms for the games in the morning. We found all of them except Rebecca's. We tore her room apart looking for it. We searched everywhere including the 6 loads of dirty laundry; the pile of clean laundry she didn't put in the empty dresser which we searched; under the bed (wow! that's what happened to all of the Tupperware tumblers); in the toy dishwasher; in the toy clothes washer and dryer (you never know?); kitchen pantry and cabinets; under the couch; under the couch cushions (no uniform but $3.65 in change, a blanket, 6 pens, 2 markers, 3 broken crayons, and something that was once food) and still no uniform.
Finally, I went back to Rebecca's room for the third time and found it on the floor next to her dresser at the bottom of a pile of clean clothes (no, the uniform was not clean it still needed to be washed). After practice and games the shin guards and shoes go into a basket in the van perhaps we need to put uniforms there too!

Oct. 18, 2007 - Fall Festival
Our support group Fall Festival is this morning. My kids are looking forward it. I'm glad I reserved my church gym for it this year because it rained all evening. We will make crafts such as bats, spiders, picture frames, magnets, and paper jack-o-lanterns. We will play midway games as well as eat a donut from a string with no hands. It is set-up so there will be plenty of fellowship time. I'll try to remember to post some pictures of the festival.

Oct. 12, 2007 - Heading Home
I am heading home today. My mother is doing more on her own now. I had a great visit with my brother and his family. The antibiotics are helping my arm heal and I'm heading to the doctor next week to have the sores checked out.

Oct. 10, 2007 - Visit to the Dcotor
I have been in Metro Detroit for almost a week now. I had a sore appear on my elbow and it is now extremely infected. I also have them on my scalp and one appeared overnight on my face. I went to an urgent care facility today. The doctor wanted me to go immediately to the ER and be admitted for IV antibiotics. So, being to chicken that I am (I'm also heading home on Friday) I went to the dermatologist I had as a kid. She gave me oral anitbiotics and antibiotic ointment. She said if it gets worse overnight I need to go to the er. So, we are praying it doesn't get worse.

Oct. 2, 2007 - Heading to Detroit
I am heading to Detroit on Thursday. My mom had knee surgery today and is doing very well. I'm going to go help her around the house for a week. The kids will all be staying home and Angelique will be in charge until Daddy gets home from work. The public schools here will be on Fall Break so some of the kids' friends from church will be available to play with them. I'm leaving a menu, reading list and chore list. I would leave school work but I know it won't get done. So, we will have Fall Break.

Sep. 28, 2007 - Let's try this again.
I have decided I should try to this again it has been two years since I first blogged. Funny thing is the fall template I had when I first tried blogging is still appropriate today. Here goes...
Our lawn tractor has been broken just about all summer. I'm sure my neighbors were wondering when we would cut the back yard. Well, I finally found a repair man who was within our budget. His name is JerryLeeMi@bigriver.net. He is hearing imparied so, he communicates via email. He came and got our lawn tractor, fixed it and returned it within 4 hours. And the charge was only $45. Apparently all it needed was the battery cables cleaned but while he had it he changed the oil (it needed to be changed), cleaned the air filter, charged the battery, raised the mower deck, and cleaned it. I was very pleased.
Earlier this month we took a trip to visit family here is our view from the porch of our cabin at Kooser State Park in PA. The kids played in the creek every free monent. Angelique got a wonderful portrait of Laura on a rock. I can't wait to see the picture printed on canvas.

Dec. 2, 2005 - Still Searching
We are still searching for the rock. It is fun to watch the other people who are searching for the rock. They want to ask you for your opinion but don't want to ask for too much information. If they ask Thomas what he thinks he talks forever! I have never seen so many adults (without children) in the parks.
We think we are on the right track but still don't know exactly where it is located. This has been a fun adventure! I think we will plan these days into our school schedule next year.![]()

Dec. 1, 2005 - Jingle Bell Rock Adventure
We are searching for the "Jingle Bell Rock." A local radio station has a contest each year. This year they are giving away a 2005 Ford Freestar, two person hot tub, and a digital camera. We have spent the last two days searching and following the clues. The radio station gives you a new clue everyday Monday-Friday and bonus clues if you go to the car dealership that is giving away to car.
My kids are having a blast. It's an adventure. When I put my 3-year-old daughter in her car seat she pointed straight ahead and yelled, "To the rock!" She also keeps asking for a treasure map.
Yesterday we kept calling my friend Christie (http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/Play2LearnHome) for help with the clues. She couldn't go look for it herself because she works from home during the day. It was fun. She was getting so excited helping us try to find the rock.
We decided we are working on geography, map reading skills, history, research, and PE. I'm sure we can think of some other categories too!
Well, we are off to visit another park to try to find the "Jingle Bell Rock!"

Oct. 31, 2005 - October 31, 2005
Thomas (7) and Rebecca (5) did their math worksheets. They played the Castle Game from Happy Phonics using Skittles as the game pieces. They played several times and ate the games pieces at the end of each game. I also read them a book about pumpkins.
Angelique (15) brought me two weeks worth of her math that she had corrected. I let her correct it. She must get an 80% or better to go on to the next lesson. She is also working on decorating our trunk for tonight.
Laura (3) had a fall festival today during her speech class. She came home with a bag full of candy.
The kids carved pumpkins today (Blue's Clues and Hello Kitty). The kids had a contest to see who could come closest to guessing the number of seeds in each pumpkin. Laura ( 3) won both times. We cooked the seeds some are salted and others are cinnamon sugar coated.
We are going to Trunk or Treat tonight at our church. I'm taking Captain Jack Sparrow, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and a nice witch.
I'm off to get my chili ready for tonight.
