preview of new veggie tales! weekend events

Friday

Library book sale - insanity!  I crammed the 4 kids under a table and tried to look for bargains, next I hear across the crowds my DS... "hey! somebody stole our books!"

Can you believe it????  Someone grabbed my stash of Childhood of Famous Americans for a buck each!  They left behind 4 .  It took me all day to get over  it!

We concluded someone else needed them more than us!  To ease the pain, we went to a favorite store to look for more books....and we came home with over 40 books!

We watched our Fish tank - baby guppies!  7 survived.

Friday night the kids had a lot of fun visiting a local church that had a parents/kids night and a showing of the new veggie tales! -candy, pop, and popcorn...

Saturday - our garbage disposal broke so that was the main even for the day - buyinga new one!  fun fun!

DH treated to DAZBOG British Islander coffee!  (my current favorite!)  This is the extent of our date life.  Date on the go!    The manager has to make it for it to be perfect...and he was there to do so. We go to this coffee shop enough the manager knows us...DH is the only one who gets a Mexican Altura French Press (all I know is it takes forever to make!)  It's hard to find people in our area that actually grew up here... this manager grew up here so it gives DH and him something to talk about!  Like us, he'd like to get away from the city life that has built up around our farm!  I'm rambling.

Sunday home from church with the girls...DD1 is not cooperating, won't sleep, won't play, etc...before my  computer time, I tried to read to her or sit and play and she refuses - signs of sickness, not again!  I'm already behind with my real mom visiting for 6 weeks this winter!  pray she doesn't get sick!

Tea Time Bible lesson with boys

http://www.christiancrafters.com

This lesson comes from a book entitled  Let the Children Come, 52 Object Lessons For Children's Worship

A Tagged teabag, 2 glass saucer s, and a match

THE TAG  - remove carefully while telling the children...

This tag tells us what kind of tea we have bought,Sometimes people want to make a tag for those around them, and nickname people..."stupid, theif, etc...This is not what God wants us to do.  God does not like his family to be tagged, everybody makes mistakes, everybody even adults.  Nobody is perfect.  John 8:7 tells us "Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone."

THE STRING - Remove carefully

People can become too attached to something on earth.  Some people tell lies, so many that they are not sure of the truth any more.  Some people become very attached to alcohol or drugs, that they cannot live without it.  Eating food, or not eating, ...God does not want us to become attached to earthly things, he wants us to focus our attention on Him and His ways.  He wants us to remove our earthly ties.

THE BAG

We are all born with sin in our lives (like the tea leaves in the pure bag)  We are all guilty of sinning, but  God loves us so much that he sent his Son to die for us and take away our sins.  Believing in Jesus we ask him to live in our hearts when  we are truly sorry for our sins, he makes us clean and pure again ..(empty leaves onto saucer)  1 John 1:7

If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, cleanses us from all sin.

THE Casing

If we believe in Jesus -we will stand pure and proud in the sight of God.  We will be a light for God

Philippians 2:15  amongst the perverse generation you shall shine as lights in the world, holding fast to the word of life.

As you shine for Jesus you will become closer to God in your Christian walk, and one day, when God chooses, your soul will rise to join Jesus for ever and ever!

here's the fun part....take the match and light the top of the casing which is standing upright  on the glass saucer...  it burns down quickly and don't blow on it!  Keep your face away from it!  When the flame reaches the glass saucer  the casing will shoot up into the air... about 4 feet!  We used the glass plate to catch the remains...

There's so much you can talk about or elaborate on this ...have fun!

The remains of the casing reminded me of our earthly bodies...being separated for now from the soul, until the rapture.

Also a good example of surprise and in a twinkling of an eye...don't share the shooting up part, unexpected surprise -  the kids love it!

Homeschooling mom is with Jesus!

"A Mother's Heart, is a Child's schoolroom"

It is more than just "schooling" -- more than imparting academic knowledge to our children.  It is so much more.

In all our homeschooling efforts, let us not forget our children's hearts.  Let us tie many heart-strings -- the more the better -- through daily interaction, creating special memories, binding our children to us through love and caring.  And let us not forget to guide their hearts toward the Lord, to set their hearts and minds on things above....

 from Missey's blog, November 2005.

Missey, a homeschool blogger  and mother has been swept into the arms of Jesus, March 1, 2006 never awakening from her   C -section of her 5th child  ...leaving a newborn girl, named Melissa Kate ...  named after her.

http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/HeartSchooling/Homeschool+Journal/

 .

Our hearts hurt for the family; uplifting them in prayers today and this week.

friday!

FISH TANK - it amazes me how much there is to learn with keeping fish!  I'd rather be scrapbooking; but researching fish info is addictive!  I'm fish sitting our new Mollies tonight to make sure they tolerate the Beta, vice versa.

This looks really fun to add to a tank  http://store.worldpetstore.com/lastreasches.html   Miracle Beam Treasure Chest and Laser Lights!

We've decided to rehouse our Beta in his own home...ideal set up seems to consist of: 5 gallon tank with heater(80 degree) and sponge

http://www.hagblomfoto.com/article_spongefilter.htm

http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWSubWebIndex/spngfltfaqs.htm

-homemade sponge filter drections

(never have to be replaced!)  live plant.  Betta's have some kind of lung that they inhale and don't need all the filtrations etc...this will give us more versatility for the 10 gallon tank.

Tonight the boys bought 1 black Molly and 1 Silver Molly, male and female so I guess we might get some Dalmation Mollies eventually??  I bought some new plants that I really like!  The male Molly seemed aggressive to the Beta...so we put the tank divider in for 2 hours...The Beta seemed stressed and his long fins were in the filter - Panic!!  so I set up an emergency 1 gallon bowl etc. for him with Beta conditioner...I ended up leaving him in the 10 gallon with the Mollies and I guppy.  They seem to be adjusting.  Mollies seem to be a good choice for our tank; because I tend to use much Aquarium salt and Mollies need more salt!

Dangerous Journey - boys watched the movie and followed along in the book.

DS7 gave the most detailed narration from memory - this told me I don't need to beat this book to death!  He loves the story and continues to listen to the audio version , the narration told me the story was his!  My plan was to drag this unit out and pound in the scriptures etc...my instinct says leave alone, they love Pilgrim's Progress and can retell verbatim...give it time to sink in!  DS7 gave me a 2 1/2 page narration -size 12 font - from the beginning to when Pilgrim receives the Parchment..

I won't type it all...here's a sample  "There once was a man called Christian that had a burden that was invisible that noone else could see.  He read a book called the bible.  He cried while he read it because he did not know how to be saved.  His wife and children they thought something got into his brain, and then it was growing toward night and they put him to bed with all haste!  and then the night was worse than the day.  When morning came, and they asked him how it was he said, "worse."  He went into the fields and then he saw a man , his name was Evangelist.  Evangelist said, "Why are you crying?" and he says, "This book tells me to flee from the wrath to come." and he pointed his finger in the direction "you see yonder wicket gate?" and then he said, "no," and then Evangelist said, "Do you see yonder wicket light?" and then he said, "I think so."  and Evangelist said, "keep that light in your eye "....

Weather in the 50's, so we  had a  Pancake Picnic!  and reading time.  More fish books!

BFIAR - Ask Mr. Bear, audio and other Farm picture books.

Thursday

It was a sad day at our house...we lost the two guppies and DS7 cried and cried

puddles of tears on his fish journal.  He said he didn't want to write in the journal today.  So we put it aside and read more fish books.

(add photo of books)

The boys took them and buried them in their Fish Graveyard; but DS7 came back in and said his brother was burying his fish, he was too sad.  I'm ok with this as long as we don't have to start putting fish tombstones up!

We took water to petsmart to have them test the levels...this was as funny as anything along this fish journey!  The lady was helpful; but like anything else...we're learning there are as many fish opinions as people!

our Ammonia is almost ready for permanent fish...She said take home 3 Danios, they are soo hardy , they will outlast the "new fish tank" etc...on and on she went...So, the boys watched her put the Danios in the bag...one was floating..."Must have fainted", she said....then she went to replace it in the same bag, there goes another Danio to the top! Then all three Danios were dead,!"  I was trying not to laugh as she just gave me the sales pitch of how HARDY Danios are!!  As the boys are telling this salesperson, "We're not suppose to take home fish from dead fish tank!"

So we ended up bringing home a BETA, she also said Beta's are good starter tank fish...of course, We're not sure we believe her! But the boys are happy and are over the dead fish blues.  He seems to be doing fine today!

History - We read about Christopher Columbus from the Light and Glory for

Children , along wtih other Columbus books.

project.  The paperweaved baskets all day!
