Feb. 10, 2006 - It's Nice Having a Daughter!

I am so happy that Madison is getting to the age that she is starting to like some of the things I liked as a little girl.  Since Christmas she has fallen in love with the movie The Sound Of Music, which I have always dearly loved.  Also we have just started reading the Ramona series by Beverly Cleary.  We started with Beezus and Ramona the other day and Madison just can't get enough.  We both laugh at the antics of Ramona and as an older sister myself I can appreciate the frustration that Beezus feels in dealing with her.

Don't get me wrong, I love my son with all my heart, but he's just never really been into the musical movies and what he feels like are "girl books."  We have our own things in common.  However, it's just nice having a daughter take pleasure in the things that I remember enjoying!

Feb. 12, 2006 - Nice to "meet" you

I decided to comment down here, because I wanted to say something about teenagers being responsible for their own schooling. You can do it with any curriculum. My Mom gave me a list each week of what she wanted me to accomplish; for example: 5 math pages, read chapter 2 of history and write an essay on ____, etc. If I wanted to get all of my math out of the way on the first day, that was fine, or I could plan it out so that I did a little of each assignment every day. Sure, it took planning on her part, but it wasn't very time-consuming, and she never actually "taught" me any of my lessons.

Oh, and I think our babies are pretty close in age, right? :-)

Our schooling has pretty much turned into what you described. I decide on the weekend how far I think Ryan should get by week's end and give the plans all to him at once. That way he knows what's expected of him and as you said can choose to work ahead if he'd like and finish the week early. He's doing really well and I'm so glad we decided to take him out of school and homeschool him.

And yes, it looks like our little babies are very close in age. They grow so fast don't they?
