Wednesday, October 15, 2008 - Hollywood and my 100th entry! |
I promised i would put the story of my trip on my 100th entry...so here it is! there's some pictures afterward. the pics in the slideshow need to be seen 1st. post lots of comments! i still only have 99!
So our first flight was from Dayton International Airport to Dallas, Texas. My dad and I were a little worried, b/c the Dallas airport is one of the biggest in the U.S. But, we made it.
There was a woman sitting next to me whose name is Nadine. She has a very interesting story! (I'm gonna tell you in a storylike manner:)
"Have you studied WWII yet in school?" Nadine asks me. She looks me in the eye beneath silver-rimmed glasses and wise eyes.
"I will be in the next week or two. Why?" I respond.
"Well, I was part of the WASP. Do you know what that was?"
I think for a minute. "No, but it does sound familiar."
"I was a pilot for the WASP in 1943-1944 for World War Two."
"Really?!? Wow!" I say to her, admiring her pilot's jacket she happened to be wearing and all of the history in her soul.
Our plane was landing, to my dissapointment, knowing that I had missed out on lots of history!
"Do you live in Ohio?" she asks me.
"Yes! Do you?"
"I sure do!" she chuckles with amusement. "Do you ever go to the Air Force Museum?"
"We go at least once a year, yes," I say.
"When you go next, go into the WASP section. On the wall with biographies of women who flew, find the one for Nadine Nigel. My biography will be there, and so will a manikan wearing my clothes!"
We were now taxiing into the terminal and the pilot of our plane was turning of the "buckle seat belt" sign.
"It was very nice meeting you and I hope to see you again!" Nadine said as her friend helped her with her cane down the aisle.
"Yes, definitely!"
isn't that cool?!?! her friend gave me her phone number and stuff so i can maybe set up an interview with Nadine! I'm so happy! (I"m a history nut :-P)
we got into texas.
We saw some pretty kool stuff on our way from Dallas to LAX (the LA airport). we flew over Arkansas, New Mexico, and Southern Calif.
I rode on my first taxi ever! that was fun! the next few pics are from LAX to the Hotel and our hotel...the Renassaince Hotel on Hollywood and Highland!
so....thursday morning we went to the SPA! it's called the SpaLuce. my dad got a massage (he's so lucky) and i got a manicure with a French tip. it was SO relaxing.
then we went down Hollywood Blvd. i have some pics from the walk of fame, but i can't really show you all of the pics b/c we took so many of stars! but, the first person that met me on Hollywood Blvd was Darth Vader. we light-saber fought for a few minutes and then he wanted my pic w/ him! so yeah. that was cool.
The Premiere!
the premiere was fantastic. if you haven't seen Fireproof yet, you need to see it. if you're married, this is a MUST. if you're not married, it still is a great movie. it taught me so much about love and what love really is. it made me take a look at my own relationships as a girl with my family and friends. it was really great!
after the premiere we hung out on the balcony overlooking the rest of the ArcLight theater for about an hour. radio stations were doing live interviews with Kirk Cameron, Erin Bathea, and Alex Kendrick. they needed a buzz in the background, so all of us stayed for a little while!
it was then that i met Kirk Cameron. i really enjoyed talking with him for the few minutes i did. he sounded like a very gentle and outgoing kind of guy. he had a firm handshake, which i really respect. :-) one or two photographers (one of which was from the people that gave us the trip) wanted our pictures, so we stood in front of the poster and had pictures.
Erin Bathea came over shortly after that and asked if I was [Sunshine]. (inside i was going like, "how did she already know my name?!?!? this is so awesome!!!!) i said yes and we talked for a few minutes. then....(ugh.) more pictures. my dad made sure he got some too. :-)
then Alex Kendrick came over. Alex wrote (with his brother Stephen) and starred in Facing the Giants (he was the football coach and husband who couldn't have kids). then, Alex and his brother Stephen wrote and directed Fireproof. so it was really neat talking with him. unfortunately, we couldn't get any pics with him! he was really busy right then, and we didn't really get to socialize with him much.
then all of us walked across the street to the Fireman's Museum. that was really cool! all of that history packed in there...wow. there was a little red carpet on the dark brick ground, and there was a Fireproof backdrop for pictures. lots and lots and lots of pictures were taken. it seemed like through the whole night, random people were introducing themselves to us! like, people would come up and say, "Are you [Sunshine] from [the people who sent us on the trip]?" and i would just (politely) say, "yes I am! this is my dad. what is your name?" and that's how about 7-10 conversations were started. :-)
out of the blue, towards the end of the night, a photographer came and asked if i was [Sunshine], yada yada. he then said that i needed to come with him, and i said okay. he took me around the press and onto the red carpet. "I need to get your pictures on the red carpet! so just turn this way a little...." and he directed me how to stand. can you believe it?!?!?!?!? i got to get pictures on the red carpet!!!!!! WOW is all i can say! my dad emailed the guy a few days ago and we got the pictures over the internet. (Mom will probably hang on to those forever! haha!)
there wasn't too much left of the afterparty when Wendy (basically our "contact" woman. she told us everything we needed to know!) introduced us to one of the museum's tour guides. my dad, a friend Chelsea and I got our own personal tour of the museum! it was so cool...i'm a history freak, so i absolutely loved it! the only downfall was that i had to take off my high heels during the tour...i had worn them for like more than four hours and it was miserable....but everything else drowned that out!
after we got back to the hotel, we ordered dinner. that's kind of funny for us, b/c it was like 10:30 at night! which would have been…..1:30 Ohio time. YIKES!
our flight home was pretty normal. the only thing "exciting" that happened was that we passed through SO MANY cool states. then our plane from Chicago to Ohio was incredibly small…*shudder*. but overall it was great!
I'm thanking God all the time for that wonderful blessing….I'll never forget it!
here's pics:
gotta go back to school! luv u all!

About Me
I AM: a daughter of the King of kings. A garden locked up. not my own. bought with a price. a mirror for Christ. 13 years old. homeschooled. imaginative. loved. precious. a servant.
I LOVE: my Abba. music. hugs. close friends. the Word. using my imagination. giving out God's love and mercy. pouring myself out to others. journaling. playing piano. playing guitar. my Mama and Papa.
I WILL: give up my life for someone else. live overseas. roam the earth. adopt a child. die for Christ. fall in love.
I HATE: sin. lying lips. two-faced people. false modesty. blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
