Homeschooling Only One
Monday, July 25, 2005 - Saturday was a fun day!
We (as a family) had a very productive day Saturday and serendipitously had a fun experience with our dog, Lucia!
I had a 10:30am eye doctor exam (just time to change my prescription, get checked out since it's been a year & a half), and the eye doctor is just "across the way" from our vet. (For those in the know in Fort Worth - Wedgwood Optometry on McCart just south of Westcreek & north of Alta Mesa; the vet is Westcreek Animal Hospital - catty-corner from the eye doctor across a field and a creek.)
So Glenn & Mike & Lucia dropped me off at the Eye doc. They walked Lucia over to the vet, got her nails trimmed and got her Heartguard & Frontline Plus, then walked her down to the bank at Westcreek, then walked back to the eye doc. Well, I had gotten all the preliminaries done and the lady doctor had just come in to begin my exam when Glenn popped his head into the exam room.
He said that they'd go across the street and walk around Petco for a bit, and maybe walk over to Kroger... I reminded him to NOT let her stay in the car (as if he would, but... well, you know! LOL).
Dr. Collette Manning piped up and said, "You have a dog with you? You want to bring her in here?!!"
I asked her if she was sure and she was positively thrilled with the idea....
So, my menfolk brought Lucia to me (who of course sees herself as MY dog although she loves the guys a lot) and she was ecstatic to see me... Then Dr. Manning told them that they could go and get some bonding time (or errand running) and it was me & her & Lucia.
Lucia did me PROUD... She laid at my feet while I was in the chair (the doc had tied the leash to the armrest so I didn't have to fidget with it)! LOL
Anyway, we started talking "dog" and come to find out she has five, has thought of bringing one or a couple with her to work, but they only (her quote) "sit when they want to" and "is nothing like your Lucia" (meaning Lucia was calm & collected! LOL). I told her I was the newsletter editor of the MABOC newsletter. (I'll be sending her a sample.)
{You can see a pic of my family with Lucia on the MABOC site (above). Scroll down to the June 2005 Picnic picture... right in the middle, I'm the one with the blue denim shirt (and you can see my silver hair), then going diagonally up to your right is my son, Mike, in the blue horizontal stripes, and most of dh Glenn's face... LOL Lucia is at my feet.}
It is just sooo cool when you can take your (trained & well-behaved) dog into places that normally don't let you... I wish America was a bit more like Europe... they are a bit more open-minded about bringing in a dog to places (where you shop & even eat).... oh well...
