Homeschooling Only One

Monday, April 3, 2006 - Monday Again!

I had a busy weekend and have a busy week ahead!

Friday, we had a field trip with one of our homeschool groups to the Texas Civil War Museum. Lots of varied and interesting artifacts. We went to a park (near Benbrook Lake) and had lunch and let the kids play a bit. Ds Mike got to go to one of the other families' home to play and I went home and took a nap inadvertently! LOL

Boy, I sure needed it! Especially for the next day! Because on Saturday....

Saturday, some of the ladies of the same hs'ing group had a Moms' Day Away to Canton, Texas for their First Monday Trade Days. There were 5 of us who went and we had a MARVELOUS time! Lots of talking, shopping, laughing, and we all got some good buys. I got a good portion of my Christmas shopping (not all of it), and found some good items to "prettify" my booth for those book fairs that I have which are far enough away from home that makes bringing my tree and potted greenery a bit difficult. (They just don't fit in a suitcase well! LOL) I still want to make my booth a pleasant environment, even if I can't bring the "whole effect! LOL We left about 8am and got to Canton by about 10:30am (made great time!). A bit disappointed that they are now closing down between 5 and 6pm now, instead of going to dusk. We were still going pretty good - weren't totally exhausted when we headed for the car. We stopped for dinner and I made it home about 10:30pm(ish). Hmm, make that 11:30! LOL Amazingly enough, I wasn't bone-tired exausted as I have on other occasions when I walked so much! I think it has a LOT to do with my shoes! (EXPENSIVE, but with my knees and back, they've been WELL worth it!)

Glenn is home this week, but has to put his nose to the grindstone. He's been working 7 days a week with long daily hours for a month or more. He had to take off to get our taxes done, as well as a few other things around here. I've got a full schedule myself, and hope I can focus on my stuff just as much as he hopes to focus on his! LOL We both can get distracted fairly easily. LOL

Here's my schedule for the week:

Monday (today) - I need to go thru the Canton receipts, have a dog club meeting this evening (if I can make it), wash/dry/put away my clothes, and make a large dent in washing dishes & cleaning my kitchen. (Ds Mike is in charge of his own clothes & the towels; dh Glenn does his own; and I am in charge of my own clothes and the sheets.) I also need to get some orders out.

Tuesday - I need to finish up the kitchen, and start work on the living room. (We all three tend to be pack rats and stackers & pilers, and having had a rough year, I've been VERY remiss in staying on top of our living area... Got a LOT of work to do in here.) We have plans to go to Life Today as a family to see the taping of the show which Frank Peretti will be a guest. (Shhh! Mike doesn't know yet!)

Wednesday - Continue with the living area, hopefully getting a large segment done. Mike has Youth that evening. It's also my birthday - only 2 more years to 50! LOL

Thursday - We're going to the GSA Auction, hopefully to obtain a newer car. It's time! Our Olds has served us well, but she's 16 years old now (have had her for 5 years), and it's definitely time. The GSA cars are all government fleet vehicles that have been regularly taken care of and you can get some great deals. We pray that this will be so this Thursday! That night I have my dog class to attend. The first hour, I assist Beginners; the second hour I have my own with Lucia in my fourth Novice class. (I haven't taken any classes since last Spring, so decided to go back a step to Novice instead of repeating Open, which she wasn't quite getting completely last Spring.) So I won't have a whole lot of free time at home when I am home.

Friday - Hopefully I'll be done with the living room and I can focus on sweeping/mopping and straightening up. I'd like to get my faux mantle on the wall, but I need to stain it, and do some gluing for the trim edge for the shelf; paint the 3-D faux rocks on the wall (which will be below the "mantle"), all behind our free-standing gas heater. I'll post a pic when I get it done. I think the whole effect will look really cool. But all of this cleaning and straightening and such is all for Friday Night - Moms' Night Out for my homeschool group is HERE... So the pressure is on, 'cause it's not company ready right now, not by ANY stretch of the imagination!

Sometime this week I need to write an article for my column on Homeschool Blogger's Company Porch. Thankfully, I'm a few weeks ahead already, but I don't want to get a "false sense of security" about being ahead! I'm so happy to have so many new acquaintances. Be sure to go to my website and go exploring on my HOO Message Board. (HOO = Homeschooling Only One)! We've almost got 100 members there and there is a LOT of love and support among the ladies there!

Well, time to hit the floor running! Have a great day, and a great week!!
