Homeschooling Only One
Sunday, August 7, 2005 - First Booth @ a Homeschool Book Fair
Long and tiring is my first impression! LOL But overall it was a very good experience.
It was so fun to meet faces who were just names to me before because they were just internet names.. It was so gratifying to have already some who have gotten my book already and wanted to come by and introduce themselves and thank me for "being obedient to God" in writing it... It was also neat to be able to help people and show them that homeschooling only one is not something that "should not be done" or "could not be done". Even to pass along the word about my HOO message board, so whether they buy the book or not, they can still plug in with others in the "same boat" and get some feedback, to get help, and to give help to others out of their experiences.
I've got photos of my booth (just had to since it was a first venture, doncha know? LOL) and will post them in the next few days....
I know I need to work on my "workshop skills" -- haven't listened to the CD yet of our workshop (that my friend Luann helped me to co-moderate)... I think the last 3 years at the Arlington Book Fair, terming our time in front of a crowd as a "fellowship" was more conducive for the audience to jump in with questions. Definitely helpful when you want to go with a Q&A format!! LOL But we did have several questions and I kind of filled in the blanks as I could... and tried for no dead air space on the tape... plus I think I did very well with repeating questions and such for the tape listener's benefit... LOL
I took today to rest from the long days from Thursday thru Saturday evening... my husband took the car to work and when he was ready to go pick up my son from my dad's, it basically died (longer story, but not going there now! LOL)... so had to have it towed from downtown Dallas to just south of downtown Fort Worth... close to 35-40 miles, probably... and my new prescription glasses are ready and I know my Lucia is ready to be picked up from the vet... but no car tomorrow, it looks like... ugh... not to mention I have greenery that I borrowed from church that I planned on getting back to them tomorrow morning..(the greenery is in the car, which is now at the garage). oh well... We shall see what tomorrow brings...
