Homeschooling Only One

Tuesday, September 6, 2005 - Are there no other Fort Worthians on hsblogger?

I just tried the "Search Our Site" option, looking for other Fort Worthians who are blogging here on HomeschoolBlogger.com....

I found myself and Adrienne.... and no one else...

Now I got an email recently and I will get to meet Adrienne and another friend of hers in the coming month or more... (the friend is in CA at the moment).... So I will enjoy meeting someone new in person, so I'm excited about that....

But I am still wondering if there are any others living in or near Fort Worth.... Just curious...

Wow! That is cool, I didn't know that! So you know Samantha? I was so surprised when I read that Donna. I look forward to meeting you. :-) There are others here who are very near to me, I know there are Euless, Keller, Southlake...just not Fort Worth.

Hi,
Just thought I would let you know, that there are other bloggers out there. I was already settled in with blogspot, and decided to stay there. I live close to Paris, TX.

I have a friend who would homeschool, IF he had more than one child. I am looking for advice for/from homeschoolers of only one child. I have a busy house of five (the oldest is 7). Are there resources in North Texas that I could direct this family to for information?

I'll go to your website & blog and leave a message there, just in case you don't get back here...

Well, I wrote a book... covers our first 9 years (K-8th grade if you look at it that way) of homeschooling. Also, I have a message board for those homeschooling only one at: http://websitetoolbox.com/tool/mb/donnac -- for us all to be able to talk to each other about our own challenges & blessings when there is only one to homeschool.

Also there are two elist groups thru yahoo groups that do the same thing. One is just for the North Texas area (although we're not strict, if someone needs help, we're there for them) They are:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NTX-HS-1 (North Texans hs'ing One)
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Onlies-HS (across the country)

I co-moderate the first one (NTX) with my friend Luann. Both lists are fairly quiet on a day-to-day basis, but when someone posts a question, there are always replies.

Feel free to have your friend email me privately, if he'd prefer. Look under Links for that. Of course, it would help to know how old his child is, etc. But I've been doing this from the beginning and there are a LOT of families of three out there doing it also. It can be done and although we're still not all that impressed with the "S" word (socialization), we are more aware of it and have to be a bit more proactive with it than those whose families have more children.

Hope this helps!

Friday, September 9, 2005 - Hi, Neighbor!

Posted by KarenS
I live in the northern part of the Fort Worth area, in the 377 and 820 vicinity. I am also only hs'ing one, but my one is quite a bit younger than yours! I see that you have made me a friend, so I guess you already knew that! I've just now looked, so if you did that a while back, please excuse me for not reciprocating sooner.
I'm glad that I did look, though, if for no other reason than the links you've mentioned here! Thanks for them!
