Well, my son and I have been dealing with near-pnuemonia for the last 2 weeks. Mike & I see the doctor on Monday for a recheck. I'm ready to be WELL. One more month of antibiotics for the UT issues (assuming all is well when I see the urologist on Tuesday).
I'm learning how to read music and ended up buying a electronic keyboard (Casio type). The homeschool group we belong to that has co-op classes has a Music Theory class going on and I'm taking the class. There are 2 other mothers taking it, as well as one of the mother's 2 daughters, and a high school senior. We are ranging from one mother learning to compose music down to me in the 2nd grade Music Theory book (Theory Time). So it's really an eclectic mix of information and kind of a cool, in a "one room schoolhouse" way. I figured I will end up learning how to play the piano (since the workbook refers constantly to the regular keyboard) and then once I can read music, I can teach myself to play my hammered dulcimer.
I think it's important for moms to continue learning and seeking their own pursuits and interests. We all should be interested in the world around us and continue with our own love of learning, for ourselves. There will be time when our home may be an empty nest with only grandbabies coming to visit (and that might or might not happen). We need to occupy ourselves and stretch ourselves in all different kind of ways. It's also like making sure you make time for the primary man in your life - your husband, now while the kids are still under your roof. There will come a time when it will be just the two of you, and you need to have a good relationship. |
