No Worries

The North American Women’s  Association is publishing our new 2010 No Worries guide to Accra.

I have submitted a few pictures for consideration.

Wanna see? share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8AYsmLhw1at2Vf

** these were not posting well to this page so you'll have to go to the link to see them all**
I won't know for a while if they will use any of my pictures. But it was fun putting them together and I feel good about trying. Ü

Telling it like it is...

It is not any fun watching movies or TV shows with anything medical or military related in them with Paul around. No doubt he will find each and every thing that is wrong with a scene and it drives him bonkers…. Which in turn drives me crazy! (Ü)

So, last night I had to add something else to that list… facebook!

He came over and had to show me an album that is driving him nuts-o.

He went through an entire military album someone had put up- telling me everything that was off. Things like: the uniforms that are in the pictures didn’t come out until years after the picture was supposed to be taken, the guns in the picture were not issued until after that conflict, one picture was of marines and not the army as the picture was labeled, something about straps on the back of helmets that came out even later… he went on and on pointing out something in nearly each picture. The pictures were clearly not of this person in Desert Storm as he had claimed.

Paul is so mellow most of the time that this was a hoot. He was as worked up as I get all the time (grin) He was all ready to write to him to tell him everything that was “off” in the pictures he was claiming to be in… in a conflict that clearly wasn’t the one it was labeled as…

I think I’ll start calling him Roz : “I'm watching you, Wazowski. Always watching.”

But someone is always watching aren’t they?

Lies are always ferreted out one way or another, the objective of trying to make yourself look good through the lie is unraveled tenfold, once the lie comes to light…   Our kids watch our conduct and learn from our examples. There is always a "Vinny" around somewhere

Bill: At my cousin Ruthie's wedding, the groom's brother was that guy Alakazam. You know who I'm talking about?
Stan: The magician with the ponytail?
Bill: Right. Well, he did his act, and every time he made something disappear, Vinny jumped on him. I mean, he nailed him! It was like, "it's in his pocket", or "he's palming it", you know? Or, "there's a mirror under the table." I mean, he was like, he was like, "wait a second, wait a second, it's joined in the middle, and there's a spring around it, it pops it open when it's inside the tube." It was like Alakazam's worst nightmare. Vinny was just being Vinny. He was just being the quintessential Gambini.

Paul didn't set out to find fault in those pictures, he was not looking for untruths- he simply knows his "stuff" so the faulty facts jumped out at him.

I pray that we all know our Bible "stuff" well enough to know when something is off in the "truths" that satan sells!

Psalm 15:2
He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart

Psalm 145:18
The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
Proverbs 12:17
A truthful witness gives honest testimony, but a false witness tells lies.
Proverbs 12:19
Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
Proverbs 12:22
The LORD detests lying lips, but he delights in men who are truthful.
Proverbs 14:5
A truthful witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies.
Proverbs 14:25
A truthful witness saves lives, but a false witness is deceitful.
Proverbs 16:13
Kings take pleasure in honest lips; they value a man who speaks the truth.
Zechariah 8:16
These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts;

Busy Days... just how I like 'em

The last few days I have had more going on- so I was able to contain myself from bugging the family… (see Plom party below ;0) )

I have been working on a project for the Embassy- just a short three week gig that had me running around town, collecting prices on items and inputting that information to determine how much the Cost of Living Allowance is going to be here in Accra. That was fun... while it lasted.

So, yesterday I spent the entire day at the office. The day flew by as I was busy typing in all the data I collected.

Today was chockers:

I went to Makola Market- the big one downtown- because someone was looking for fabric, I know where that is and I am not only a glutton for punishment but I actually enjoy going there. I think it’s fun.

After we made our way back home I went into the Embassy where I joined Paul for lunch and spent the afternoon finishing up the project and submitting it.

I then dropped Paul off at home and headed off to dinner with 3 friends. We are going on a trip together in a couple of weeks so we had to hash out some sightseeing details. One leg of the trip is nearly finished- I’ll work it up tomorrow.  The other leg we will be sussing out over the next few days… It’s going to be a whirlwind trip- cramming in as much as we can while we are able… (ahhh, heaven)

The rest of the week looks promising:

Tomorrow I’ll go into the Emb in the morning  and then I am heading to a friend's to scrapbook- well, really I am heading to help a friend scrapbook, not to work on my own stuff, but that’s fun too.

Saturday morning I am heading out for a photo shoot trip at one of the markets, that should be interesting. Sunday we have church... and then a family heading over for lunch... followed by youth group in the evening.

Add in a few hours of quiet time, reading and trip planning and the rest of my week is looking like the family just might be productive/successful in school—without their wife/mom trying to undermine their studies and tempting them to blow it all off so she can go and play…

Oh AND … I heard from an old friend that she is planning a two week visit sometime this year. YEA!!  Something else to look forward to!

STILL have not heard THE news and the guys are still trying to work out their summer plans… so also still waiting and working on that patience thing …

What to do when everyone is busy in school?! Warning: PLOM party ahead.

So, yesterday was the first day of this semester. Devon is taking 18 credits, Dylan is taking 18 credits, Paul is taking a class and Addison is in an online writing program…

I was SO BORED!

I rearranged the front room, and the school room, sorted out my closet and drawers, pulled out a stack of things to go and give away, started a book, had my quiet time, fed the family 3 meals,  watched a movie, finished the book and thought about all the fun things I could be doing… I seriously considered dragging everyone out to go and do something, but that would be mean.

What in the world am I going to do with myself today and for the rest of the semester?!

I guess I’ll have to pull out a project to work on. All of the computers are being used for schools so I won’t be able to do any projects on line or with my pictures…

I could plan my trip to Dubai and Cairo…that’d be fun and will take a few hours- oh, but I’ll need the internet to do that …

I guess I’ll have to pull out a stitching project, or a knitting project, or something that I can do quietly at home while everyone is busy …

At least today is Tuesday, so I have the ladies tea this morning, and Addi has to be at the stables ‘sarvo.  Oh, and I suppose I am finishing up that project for the embassy this week…

We have finished some schoolbooks, I could try to list those on a HS used book site… that’d be something to do… on-line though...

Oh, and I am working on a project for the international woman’s group here in Ghana, I am fact checking the travel section of their No Worries Guide to Ghana...on-line....

Addi & I started her Anne of Green Gables unit study… The only thing is, she has so much reading for this unit study, that it still leaves me with a lot of time with nothing to do …

If I lived near you again, we could be having so much fun. Scrapping, stamping, going out and about, chatting, walking…. coming up with whacky fun things to do …

Wahhhhh! All the ladies here work, there are no homeschoolers in the city, the women’s group doesn’t do any activities – no classes to take or service opportunities through them…

There are no girls available for a Keepers group, no one to have Redwall days with, no science or reading or history or art days to organize, no Awanas or Sunday school or PNO to run, no ladies Bible studies

Good thing I have some Aussie yarn in my basket… But who is going to fix my boo-boos ?!

Okay, I am done with my PLOM party … for today …

Oh ya, so you know ....  PLOM= Poor Little Ol' Me!

Paul leaves D.C. today and will be back home tomorrow. YEA!

Dev  & Dyl have been exploring options for this summer. They think it’d be fun to meet up with friends for a summer job- we will see what they find out.  They are both looking to gain some experience for future positions that they have their eyes on. Summer job, missions trip, or I just heard about this other option…. Capenwray. Know anything about it?

They are also both busy getting things lined up for next falls semester. It takes a lot of time looking for scholarships and grants- when your internet runs as slow as MOLASSES and is as dependable as a coin toss!

Addison is thrilled that she is learning to canter in her riding lessons. She does love the horses.

Devon is taking music exams, in piano, over the next couple of weeks. So ,the house is always full of lovely melodies. The British have this program of testing and grading musical abilities. It is rather nice, since it is standardized and regulated, so everyone at each level has the same basic knowledge and skill set. The Aussies have the same system. In the USA there is no set of musical standard across the board. It’s a shame really. Since the option is here, Dev is going to go ahead and test.

It could end up being another summer with just Addi & I…. It’s the best time to come here … any takers? I could hook up some mission work for ya- want to build a well, work at a school? Come play at the beach with me… =0)

Still no word on our follow on assignment. Paul went in and talked to the assignment officer- there was a snag with one of the positions so the entire grid has to be re-worked. He was hopeful that 2 weeks would see it all sorted.  Patience, I must need to work on that and God thought some practice would do me good. ;0)

We are all doing a Bible challenge that we are really enjoying and I am just getting ready to start Crazy Love as a family study. I have heard good things about it and am looking forward to seeing how it goes and I’ll let you know.
