Devon's 18th birthday

A huge thank you to everyone that sent Devon birthday greetings via email. I made up “the biggest birthday card ever” with all of your birthday wishes, blessings, prayers and a few funny memories too. What a special keepsake it turned out to be – love to Dev from across the years and miles. He had 68 birthday wishes from all across the USA and 9 countries. It was really fun to read through them all … it brought tears to a few eyes! Thanks for making his 18th birthday special and for celebrating with us!

I can’t believe he is 18 years old … it was only yesterday that he was smiling his big toothless grin, so proud to be riding a two wheeler, swimming all the way across the pool, playing with his Barney, learning to read, building with legos, wearing some dress-up outfit or another, squeaking on the violin, learning to drive …. it was only yesterday wasn’t it?

So for Devon’s 18th b-day we had a family party at a fun pizza place filled with games and rides. The evening was spent enjoying each others company by trying to blast each other in laser tag, give whiplash in bumper cars, out shoot, out throw and out bowl each other and win more tickets then anyone else. (LOL)

Wish you coulda been there!

Suzanne, Ian & Bella wish Dev happy b-day

Heading in for lazer tag

Bella is so stinking cute. She wore her pirates of the Caribbean shirt just for Devon. (lol)

Devon said no cake-- only pie for his birthday to which Grandma Jody replied "that's a man after my own heart."

Happy birthday Dev. We love you!

A coupla great movies!

At the theaters right now--

FIREPROOF was a great movie. If you are looking for something to see-- go and support a Christian movie in the theaters-- it's two hours well spent with both your time and your cashola! Check it out

To rent--

The Ultimate Gift. Wow! We loved this movie last night. How important are each of those gifts-- and what a nice change of pace in a movie! And as a bonus—ya just gotta love a movie with James Garner.Check it out

Ballet Shoes. Addison loved this movie and has dubbed it her new favorite movie of all time. A couple of time there was a little sas but the heart  ends up in the right place. Check it out

And one more to add in:

August Rush. We watched this movie the other night we really enjoyed it. Well, the kids loved it for the music Ü as much as for the story. There were a few bad words sprinkled throughout -- but it was a good movie overall!  I didn't like Robin WIlliams being a tad scary-- I just don't like him to play those kind of parts. Enjoy it. check it out

… So there ya go… a few movies to add in your pizza and movie night viewing list. Gotta love Netflix!

Seen anything good lately??

Addison's Second Hand Rose

As most of you know Addi loves to sing. It is her passion. Since we have been back in the states she joined a large children’s choir here in town. She enjoys it but is really missing the Canberra Children’s Choir with all her friends.  She is not taking piano or violin lessons while we are home, focusing on her voice instead.

Anyways…. On Friday evening there was a short showcase performance and Addi was able to sing. She sang a cute song called Second Hand Rose. We think she is simply marvelous and even taped her so you can see for yourself. (giggle)  She was a little nervous as it was a new venue… but she is just so dang cute when she lets loose. Enjoy her song.

 Here she is

Paul's home

Paul’s plans have changed a bit in the last few weeks. He is now going on temporary duty to Tashkent, Uzbekistan for a while. How funny is it that out of 130-odd countries that we have Embassies in, Paul is being sent to Tashkent as a fill in…. We are all so excited that he gets to go back there. We have already started shopping for gifts for our local friends that he can take with him and I have 4 boxes of things for the orphanage already packed and ready to mail. The kids are trying to offer all future birthdays and Christmases as trades for a ticket to visit while he is there. (Grin)

Anyways… Since he is heading to Tashkent and the wait for a visas is 30+ days …. he came home for a little visit. I was beyond happy to drive and pick him up on Wednesday. I hated having him in D.C. and us not being together. So he came home. I love that man!

Addi makes Trey's birthday cake

Addison loves to decorate cakes! It is a skill she learned through Keepers at Home.

This Saturday her cousin Trey had his 2nd birthday. Addi volunteered to make his birthday cakes and Auntie said she would love that.

So, Add found a ball cake pan and just knew that Trey would LOVE it! Trey adores balls of all shapes and sizes but he is particularly fond of soccer with basketball being a close second.  Since Trey was turning two, Addi thought that two cakes were in order and set out to make him his two favorites.

Check out her finished products! Didn’t she do a great job? Trey loved his birthday cakes.

Addis also wanted to make Trey a big warm blanket so she picked out some ball fabric and made him one of those no-sew fleece blankets.

Two gifts from the heart. What a sweet girl!

Monday Sept 8

garfield-mondays12 by you.

Garfield, I know just how ya feel!

This morning we drove Paul to San Francisco…. where we had to say good-bye. He is off to get his passport & shots in order for his first TDY to Botswana, Africa.

Hopefully, we will have the chance to see him for Christmas…or at least one other time before we leave.

We will be packing out of our house in March and are looking at leaving the states April 1….

So, the kids and I will get to meet up with Paul on the East coast at the end of March….

6 months…

it’s not so long… it’s not so long… it’s not so long.

And then we are off for another two year posting!

I did start investigating Ghana today…. something to look forward to and all that. (giggle) Oh man! It’s gonna be good!!! (and not just because we will all be together again…)

After we left Paul the kids and I took the long way home down Highway 1 for a ways.

Sea_otter by you.

We pulled over at the perfect spot and happened to be blessed by seeing a number of otters floating in the kelp below us AND about 5 sea lions playing in the water, a flock of pelicans that flew by us in formation right at eye level ….

 sea_lion2 by you.

It was a nice drive home…

This Monday is so not fun though…..It's gonna be rough around here without him....

Oh, we did get to have some Aussie style fun today on the drive home...

we stopped in a bakery on the coastal route, grabbed a cuppa cocoa, a few scones and a blondie slice.

THEN we were driving along and happened upon this sign… of course I had to yank the car off the road for the photo …

now sing along with me, “We’re goin’ to ….”

and as if that was not enough …  I passed this bad boy by and had to whip us around for a picture… This is a VERY rare thing to find here – but you know how I do love them so….

Miss you guys!

Uncle Robbie

My Uncle Robby made the long drive out from Minnesota to visit with us while we are in the states this go round. It has been nice to have time to visit with him, for the kids to get  to know him and to hear all about his grandkids. We had not seen Uncle Robby since he came out in ’94. So it has been a treat!

We enjoyed a delightful evening hosting him and Grandma for dinner and a swim… I grabbed a few snaps of Grandma but missed out on pictures of Uncle Robbie! What was I thinking?? I’ll have to make up for that over the next coupla weeks  Ü

Dylan... lurking in the pool
My Grandma Jody ....  Who just turned 84 years old!
Trey, Bella, Ian & Addi chowing down after a swim.
Proof that there can be too much of a good thing. We wore grandma out!

Memorial Day weekend

We enjoyed our relaxing Memorial Day weekend with a visit from Frank and his family!  They made the trek over to spend the weekend playing in the pool, chatting it up, playing games, riding bikes, night swims, hitting the mall, chowing down, forcing them to look at scrapbooks… you know all the normal good stuff that happens when you spend the weekend with friends! (who just happen to be family Ü)

I’ll have to get the pictures off Frank’s camera sometime…. those mall pictures are gonna be worth some hush money one day! Giggle giggle. It was a delightful weekend!

Thanks for making the trek over guys! See ya at your place next go round!

Girly fun

There is a store in the mall called Libby Lu’s. While Frank and his family were over visiting us this past weekend we hit the mall where Addi, Annie, Ally & Sierra were able to go in and get all girly’d-up.

Those ladies are FAST at the hairstyles and makeup—not to mention the fingernail painting. The girls didn’t know what hit ‘em… but they sure did look adorable when they came out!

… Of course, they were already adorable before they started… but you know what I mean.

All dolled up!
