Keepers at Home in the Kitchen…

Posted in Keepers at Home

Today we had a wonderful meeting full of yummy goodness. We started the meeting off with the Keepers song and verse.

I had the girls look up a small stack of verses- all applied to food or hospitality. We chatted about how food is such a big part of a moms day – planning, preparing, serving and cleaning up – and how it is a big part of a kids day too. Ü

Today two of our girls did a cooking demonstration for us. Esther showed us how she makes brownies, followed by Katrina showing us her chocolate chip cookie recipe and how to. The girls did a great job explaining each step. We had questions from the other girls as it went along.

We will be making up little recipe card books for each girl with today’s recipes and room for others to follow.

While the brownies and cookies were baking it was time for all the girls to get busy.

We set up the island with all the ingredients laid out in steps (with the directions typed up and taped in front of each ingredient) and each girl went around a made up a layer jar of Cranberry Chip Cookies. The jars can be used as a gift or made up as a treat at home. It was a good way to get everyone involved in measuring and letting them all make something during that baking time. The jars were sent home with instructions for mixing and baking.

We finished out the meeting enjoying warm brownies and cookies hot from the oven over cups of hot tea, coffee, cocoa and cold drinks.

The baking badges will be worked on at home with moms, but this was a good way to jump start the girls on a very worth while activity and hopefully get them excited about the good things they can make in the kitchen.
