Here are a few of the conveniences that we couldn’t imagine living here without!
Our weekly malaria pills.
Our generator. Which has kicked on every single day that we have been here- to supplement the dodgy city power.
Our water tank. The Embassy makes sure it is filled each week- to supplement the city water flow to our home.
Our gas cylinder (and spare!) for all our cooking needs.
Our battery packs and surge protectors for our electronic equipment. City power is unreliable and often spikes.
Our convertors. Which allow us to use the 110V appliances that we already owned.
Our room air conditioners. Each of our main rooms has an air-con. A luxury here to be sure!
Our dehumidifiers. Because air-conditioning is not enough to make us comfortable and save us from molds.
Our two way radio. For all our emergency contact and info needs.
Our safe room. For our peace of mind, nothing says peace like bars on the way to your bedroom.
Our fence tops …the barbed wire and broken bottles just scream "welcome", don't they?!
Our bleach. For our fruits & veggies we fill a bucket with clean water, add in a few tablespoons bleach to let them soak for 10 minutes. A fresh water rinse and they are ready to enjoy. (and our teeth have never been whiter) Ya, it really is the little things in life that make your days run smoothly and that bring you peace of mind... the conveniences in life. |
