Lupton's Loving Life
Jun. 28, 2009
I had the most fun this morning!

I went down stairs and opened up my crock pot … where I had my very first batch of homemade yogurt!

I had Paul give it a taste. (I surely wasn’t going to try it first!) and he said it tasted like … yogurt. Score.

I was giddy with joy as I went off and added in some flavoring. When Paul tried it again...  he smiled wide and said it was really good. I was SO excited! You don’t even know! I bought a container of yogurt on Saturday morning for… 12.00! ONE container 12.00!  (I had to have a ½ cup of yogurt to use for my starter.)   Can ya see where I would get excited at the prospect of making my own yogurt with those kind of prices. Besides the fact that it is fresh, homemade, all natural … it’s also cheap! What could be better than that, I ask you? Not much, let me tell ya!

I put aside my ½ cup of plain yogurt to use for a starter on my next batch. I made 2 quarts of yogurt so that should last us most of this week… blueberry yogurt, pineapple yogurt, mango yogurt, Paul is thinking frozen yogurt … . O’ happy happy day.

And that is just how the day started. (grin)

(Addison is not feeling well, she has a cold so I stayed home with her while the guys went to church this morning).

While they were gone this morning I was busy being productive. I LOVE when I can get a long list checked off.  And today I was able to check, check a number of items. This morning I made up my menu for the next month and my shoping lists for each week. I made dough for 4 batches of bread, baked 6 types of muffins, 2 batches of cinnamon rolls and three types of cookies. Then I made today’s dinner.

Today we had an Aussie meat pie (Well, the filling was a meat pie but I didn’t make a crust so it was really a shepherds pie with a meat pie filling.)  and green bean bake. (Inserting here that I despise green bean casseroles made with cream of mushroom soup. I have never ever like a green bean casserole.)

The green bean bake today was SO delish- we ate every drop. This bad boy is getting added into the Thanksgiving line-up, right next to the corn casserole and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies for sure!  We finished it all off with a Hot Fudge Pudding Cake, made from scratch, that was finger licking good. (Shannon, I am going to email ya the recipe—it is too easy to make and everything will be on hand or available.)

Afterwards we watched the Two Towers and spent a relaxing day at home, listening to the sounds of the rain beating down outside. (the rainy season has come to Ghana).

Our weeks seem to be passing so quickly. On the calendar this week we have:  A  tea,  yoga, youth group movie night, Embassy family (4 July) event, Embassy official (4 July) event, youth group meeting, orphanage volunteer time, some sights to see and a few other things to squeeze in between now and Saturday. The weeks are going so quickly with the guys all at work!

So … I hope you all enjoyed your Sunday as much as I enjoyed mine.

(homemade yogurt, who knew?!)

Keep those experiences coming and tell us how Paul likes the frozen yogurt...it can almost be ice-cream...and much better!!

I would love your recipe too. We also hate using the canned soup method and I have tried several homemade on my own, but I'd like to try yours.
