KING OF QUEEN OF QUITE A LOT
Oct. 24, 2005
The kid's a hunter
size and such, but then we got to walking up mountains and the next thing you know we had gone every bit as far as I usually go on my own.  I would be completely out of breath and ask how he was doing.  He would give me a casual look, say "just fine" and then his look would turn to one of concern and he would ask me how I was doing......what a joker.

One evening I took Ben with me.  He can't wait to be able to hunt himself.

Tay didn't get a shot off on anything but he did have the time of his life and discovered what the attraction to hunting is and is not.  It is not about the killing.  It is about so much more; being in, around and thankful for the marvel of God's creation.  Fellowship with each other.  It's about the "hunt" itself and all that it includes.  It's about seeing animals in the wild doing naturally what God has created them to do.  The time of day loses it's relevence.  Physically, you see that obsticles,to a large degree, are assigned their level of difficulty by how we approach them.  Sitting at the bottm of a large mountain pondering how difficult it will be to climb gets you nowhere...if you want up there, you just have to do it.  While your climbing, you are paying attention to your footing and looking for animals, not constantly looking at the top to see how far off it is or how steep it is.  As a father, you're always looking for some deep profound lesson in just about everything.  In this case, Taylor learned that God's promises and Christ Himself should be the object of our attention.  Not the difficulty or distance that seems to lay between His promises and the fullment of His Word.

I was quick in pointing this out when he got back down...............what......you didn't think I was going to climb that thing did you?  He also got to feel the reality of him being a contributing member of this team we call our family.  He knew he was out there hunting for meat to put on the table.  It gave him a whole new and different sense of belonging to something larger.  He always has been, but I'm sure mere words can seem like nothing more than lip service.

like it's tso otally about TIME that you finally blogged again. I have a request. I would like one of those boys. My Emmiko will make a fine bride ( I am ALL about arranged marriages) and/or Ryann would too. they are ten and eleven. We can even have a double wedding. We'll come up there for the wedding. So now, my disco brothuh, we really WILL be related. So, anyways, i'll send the contracts over and you can sign them and get them back to me within the next 20 to 25 years.

PS go say hi to the "Greatness"; he has once again embarked upon his blogging career, and could definitely use some more guy bloggers to keep him going.

Take your pick. However, there must be pre nup interviews and the such. Not that there would be any question as to the suitability of you daughters. It's just something that must be done. Actually, we have discussed courtship for a few years. I decided my daughter may never marry though. Maybe, perhaps, probably not, possibly, we'll see. Anywho, send the contracts right over and we'll have our people look them over and get back with your people. If we really become related, will you do the stuff to us that you do to Gena??????:( This could be a deal breaker.

Thanks Jay. It's nice to hear from another dude type. You'll have to tell me more about this rebel alliance and JenIg's fits. I hope she's not some kind of tree hugger or something. Whatever I can do to help.

Nah, I don't think Jen is a tree hugger, but she *does* think guy blogging is "boring" (check out Geoff's blog and the ensuing hilarity at hers). Anyway, I'm bugging Geoff and his brother in law Paul to lead "The Homeschool Testosterone Alliance" to counter all this Imperial female blogging. Then we can get some REAL blogging topics around HSB, like "Craftsman vs. Dewalt," "Toilet seat covers -- why bother?" and "Why are American boys playing soccer?" BTW, by any chance are your sons scouts? We've had a blast in scouting with our guys, and a lot of homeschool work can be done for scout credit (and visa versa). l8r, j

Hey Doug, As we form our Alliance of dads here at HSB, I whipped up a graphic that we can all post on our blogs -- a standard around which the troups can rally! Let me know if I can help with getting you set up with this. -j

Dalyn really needs to schedule you in here more.....
What an awesome trip you and your son had ~

I've told my sons that they are not allowed to date until they're 40 - they just have too much "Tom and Huck" stuff to do.........you can visit one of my sons at www.homeschoolblogger.com/treehouseisland . We just got the island cleared and the guys are "blue printing" the camouflage lodge to commence building any day now.....

Take care ~
