| I've been following the situation since the 2nd Appellate Court in California ruled, in the case of in re: Rachel L, that homeschooling is not a constitutional right and (in their opinion) therefore illegal. HSLDA has issued a response, and has started a petition asking that the ruling be depublished. Depublishing the ruling is VERY VERY important in this case. Published rulings (such as this one) can be used as precedent in later cases. Unpublished rulings are specific to that case only and cannot be used to set precedent. PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION. You do not have to be a member of HSLDA to do so, in fact they are encouraging everyone to sign nationwide. If this ruling is allowed to stand, in it's published nature, and not overturned by the State Suprememe Court, California will become one of the most restrictive states in the nation for homeschoolers. Homeschooling, per se, will be all but abolished. Only parents with a 4yr teaching credential will be able to homeschool their children. So, I continue to ask for prayer for California's homeschoolers. Pray that this ruling is overturned by the State Supreme Court, and depublished in the meantime (it is currently the "law of the land" until depublishing occurs). You can follow the case via www.HSLDA.org, and I will continue to blog some on it as I can. Thank you in advance for your prayers! ~DragonflyPrincess |
