Kids say the cutest things...

~August 5, 2008

I have written before some cute things my soon-to-be-7-yr-old has said.

Yesterday he cracked me up.

I have to back up and give some background.

On Sunday, DH was changing the oil in his car, so the van was parked on the street to make some "elbow room" in the garage.  When he was done and moving the cars around to park them both back in the garage, he scraped bumpers with a vehicle that was parked in front of our house.

So, of course, insurance info is exchanged, we meet a couple of our neighbors that we see but never really got to know, and all is well.  DH wants me to take the van in for an estimate of how long it will take to make the bumper like new again, so yesterday (Monday) the kids and I schlep off to the body shop to see what they have to say.

On the way, STB7YO says, "Are we going to the car place that has toys?"  He was thinking about the dealer where we get the maintenance done... they have a really nice kids area with toys and a TV.

Me:  No, we aren't going there.  We are going to a different place today.  Do you remember before M was born, the place we took the van after mommy had an accident?

STB7YO (in exasperated teen-ager-ish tones with a completely straight face):
YES, Mom.... I remember the day my window went black and that truck smashed into us.

Me:  ROTFL with tears (well, not really ROTF... I was parking the car and that would not be safe... but you get the idea).

He was referring to the day I swerved (just a little, I swear!) to miss someone who made a right turn on red without seeing the wall of oncoming traffic speeding towards him(including me and a FedEx truck).  I tootled my horn and moved (just a little, really) to the left to avoid MrRightTurnOnRedWithoutASecondLook and BAM!  MrFedExBoxTruck took out the whole drivers side of my van from the sliding door back to the bumper.  It was my fault, even though at the time I could have sworn I didn't go out of my lane...

So there you have it... my funny kid story for today.
