Each Day Has Enough Trouble of it's own
This is actually more of a question than a post.
How do people make schedules days weeks or months in advance and stick to them? I get frustrated just trying to do a weeks schedule. I have adopted the take each day as it comes method. Of coarse there are those things that are planned, but I get so overwhelmed. Even in my meal planning I switch up or change what we are having for dinner. I do buy for the weekly menu, but I don't really stick to it.
Ok, so is this just a discipline that I am lacking in? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I have just learned to do the next thing... I would always feel "off schedule" and stressed if we were supposed to do this assignment on this day.

I have just started to come up with a better plan for myself. I posted what meal we will have on what day and it's the same every week. This is great for my grocery shopping. I typed it up and the day before I go shopping I print it off, clean out the fridge, and mark off what I have already. As for homeschool, at the end of the week, I organize everything and plan for the next week. I put everything in each one of their boxes and decide what projects we will do. I think it helps to have the same schedule. It helps my sanity.

Jan. 10, 2008 - From a relaxed scheduler

I've been at both ends of the spectrum on planning for school, chores and meals.
When our first two kiddos were very young I felt totally overwhelmed and needed to be able to look at the clock and my list and see what to do next. But eventually this hyper-scheduled life led to a crabby mom and kids, who always felt like we were behind.
What has worked best for us is when I view our schedule more like a suggestion. For example, with meals I plan and shop for the week. When I wake up on Tuesday and don't feel like making lasagna, I just trade off with another meal for that week (I use pencil to allow for rearranging). So we will eat the meals I planned for that week, but not necessarily in the order planned. Same goes for school and many errands. It leaves us flexible and more joyful.
The past year or so we have been essentially unscheduled and I found that having those suggestions really is crucial to keeping our home joyful. As you saw on my blog (thanks for popping in), I'm just getting back on track and trying to find that happy medium again. Good luck to you on your journey!
