Mar. 21, 2006 - At Work With Dad

My husband decided to take 1ds8 to work with him last week.  Working the night shift, he thought it would be more conducive to having his son in tow and that 1ds8 is old enough to experience what a night of his work is like.

Overall, 1ds8 was thrilled to tag along and enjoy some individual attention with Dad, although he did complain of being bored several times throughout the night.

My husband had to transport a storage box from one location to another and 1ds8 helped him with that for which he received $2.50.  (He was thrilled!)

My husband had a couple of meetings and my son had to sit in another room.  A couple of my husband's co-workers chatted with him during that time.  What impressed me most, were the topics that they chatted with him about.  Seeing that he'd brought along one of the Narnia books, they talked to him about them and the movie and compared the two, this led to questions of whether he'd seen The Passion of the Christ (he hasn't) and the Bible studies that one of the guys has done.  They haven't even had these conversations with my husband!  As I picture my 8 1/2 year old son, sitting with these men and conversing naturally and intelligently about spiritual things in a secular office, I can't help praise God for the godly character that He is developing in him!  God is so good!

Not to mention the blessing of having others at work for your husband to fellowship with and discuss things of spiritual interest! I'm not sure our children could be left with my husband's coworkers, and I shudder to think what might get discussed!

Awww, what a special time of bonding for them.

Mackenzie used to like going to work with dh once in a while but she can't now that she's reading. I've never even been in his office. LOL

What a neat experience for your son!
I kept noticing your name in the comments of some of my "friends" so I thought I'd stop by. I enjoyed reading your entries as well as your comments on others' blogs. ~javamamma

Mar. 22, 2006 - That's soo cool

My father is a pastor - so tagging along with his work day was very very normal for my sister and I. I will not regret any moment I spent following him and doing ministry with him. He was a firm believer that part of his reponsibility as a pastor was to take my sister and myself "along for the journey".

Sometimes it takes seeing kids in the eyes of someone else's experience to really appreciate how grown-up, mature and godly they've become.

So what does night shift mean--does C have to do this often? Was E able to stay up all night? That's great that he was able to go along, and spread a little salt and light. He seems like such a mature little boy. I am looking forward to your next visit (hint-hint) so I can spend some time with your whole family. How does your summer look?

Mar. 31, 2006 - What A Wonderful Opportunity All the Way Around!

Our ds will be nine soon, and I can just see him doing the same! How sweet!

It amazes and astonishes me how God will use our children. No matter how much we believe in them or appreciate them, He still uses them in ways that we are blessed and surprised by.

Thank God Daddy wanted to take ds,and thank God you have both put all you have into him. I do not believe the average 8yo boy would be able to have such a conversation with an adult.

Aren' t we so blessed to homeschool our boys so that they don't have to sit for hours at a desk, wondering what God really has planned for their days?

So. thank the LORD He gives us wisdom to lead them where He can use them for His glory. Getting to experience it is just the whipped topping on the pie! (Well, my pie - because I love whipped topping!)
