One of the most common New Year's resolutions that I hear in the church is to read through the entire Bible in a year. I tried once in college and only made it through Deuteronomy. I was reading it in my flesh and not in the Spirit, so I kept getting hung up on things. I was in that collegiate mindset of challenging everything so I really wrestled with the Lord. Then, I got exasperated and quit. I've matured significantly since then and have grown to understand better things like God accepting Abel's sacrifice and rejecting Cain's. I think I'm ready to try again, but this time, I want to do it in the Spirit, praying continually that I would grow in my relationship with the Lord through time in His Word and that I would be challenged to change my actions, my attitudes, my idea of things, as I read and His Truth is imparted to my heart. I don't want it to be a pride thing or something I do just so I can say that I've done it! I want to do it wholeheartedly and am committed to seeing it through to completion.
I was given a Bible that is divided into daily readings which combine the daily reading with a Psalm and a Proverb, so I could just read that, but I was thinking that I might want to read the Bible chronologically- in the order that it happened. I found a great resource here at Back to the Bible which has several options (chronological, historical, Old and New Testament together, Begining to End, and Blended). I think I'm going to go with the Chronological and dh and 1ds9 are going to do the same. Let me know if you'd like to join us!
"All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work." II Timothy 3:16-17 (NASB)
"The Word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart." Hebrews 4:12 (NASB) |
