Mar. 25, 2007 - Renewed, Refreshed & Inspired

I have just enjoyed a fabulous weekend with my beloved!

He and I had the pleasure of attending the Cincinnati Homeschool Convention together while my mom and dad cared for our children.

We left Thursday night and got home early Sunday afternoon.  I was putting a lot of stock into this weekend.  It had been a couple of years since we had attended a homeschool convention, and this past year has been an interesting and somewhat tumultuous year for our family.  God has been faithful, and we have experienced countless blessings, but the academic side of our homeschool has suffered.

In many ways, we needed a break.  For ten years we kept a frenetic pace of life; and frankly, I WAS EXHAUSTED!!!!  So, we cut way back and severely limited our extra-curricular activities, and unintentionally, our academic pursuits as well.  I’ve struggled quite a bit as a result.  In some ways, I welcomed the respite; enjoying watching the kids play and spend time together, building relationships,  but in others, I felt guilty; knowing how much there was to accomplish, and yet lacking the energy and the motivation to carry it out.  I never wavered in my commitment to keeping my kids home with me, it was just the “schooling” part that was a challenge.  All that to say, after several months of doing the minimum, I knew that it was time to get back to business, but I still lacked the motivation to do so.  I prayed that this convention would provided the inspiration, encouragement, and motivation that I needed.  AND IT DID!

My husband and I were both blessed beyond measure; in spending time alone together, in attending workshops, and in browsing through the vendor hall, spending way too much money!  The speakers were phenomenal (Ken Ham, Richard “Little Bear” Wheeler, Norm Wakefield, Maggie Hogan, Jim Weiss, Sarah Malley), and I am, of course, ecstatic over our purchases (God’s Mighty Hand: Providential Occurrences in World History, The Ultimate Geography & Time Line Guide, The Adventure of Missionary Heroism, Pocketful of Pinecones,….to name a few)!  I enjoyed edifying conversation with my husband and greatly appreciated his support and encouragement!  The weekend was everything I had hoped for and more!

So, now I’m excited and motivated, and looking forward to getting back on track academically, and in other ways as well!  God is good!

I'm so happy for you!!!

It is so very nice to spend quality time with hubby AND get encouragement in the teaching of our children. What a blessing!

And don't even get me started on the purchases... Nothing like an exciting new (or at least new to you) curriculum, book or project pack to make you wish for Monday morning to hurry up and get here. :-)

Love,
Marsha

Sounds like an awesome weekend! I am really hoping to go to a convention this year. My oldest is in 9th grade and I haven't been able to attend a convention since he was in 4K.

I've never even thought about going to the Cincinnati convention! Have you been to the Indianapolis one? I wonder how they compare? So happy for you to have had such a wonderful weekend. Hope the effects are still lingering! :)

Mar. 27, 2007 - no stones thrown

Hey, I just wanted to come over and let you know I wasn't throwing stones at ya. And that yes, I did understand YOUR defense of his book. And I had really enjoyed reading your post. It was the thought that there are people out there that are so against a REAL God and REAL encounters with Him that grieved me. Anyway, I posted a response to your comment on my post. Hope this clears the air!

Oh how blessed you are. I wish I lived closer to where the Homeschool Convention is. It is 10 hour drive from where we live. )0= Maybe next year. This year all our $ and time is spent on our House That God Built. I too felt the same way you have. I too want to get going on our learning adventures.
God Bless my SSiC

The adventures of missionary heroism? I'm getting that. What a cool title. It makes me drool for it. Now THAT's what kids need to hear!

I just heard Barb Shelton speak yesterday and she talked about that it's about heart and relationship FIRST. Then, academics second. Because it will all have been for nothing if we raise little Einsteins but loose them when they're out. Loose their hearts and the relationship.

It's SUCH an amazing concept, but so true.

So, the break in academics was a temporary thing and if you spent it working out family stuff, and relating to each other? Then it was worth it. :)

I'm so glad you found what you're looking for. I've been feeling very uninspired lately also. I'm hoping the new curriculum we've chosen (Sonlight) will give me a much-needed boost. :-)

That is fantastic! God always seems to give us just what we need (and then some), just when we need it. I am glad you were both encouraged and renewed.

Thanks for continuing to stop by my blog, even though I haven't been around much to read and comment.

Blessings,

Angela
