For the Sake of the Call
Apr. 30, 2007 - In Awe, Inspired & Itching! |
The past couple of months, I've been following the progress of a past acquaintance on her cross-country adventure with her four daughters. The Stringers moved to Maryland just as we were in the midst of moving from Maryland to Virginia. My husband got to know them a bit in an adult Sunday School class which he was team-teaching, but I was teaching the 2 year old class at the time and so I didn't get to know them much. After we left they quickly became friends with all of our friends and every time we'd go back to visit, we'd get to see them too. They were the kind of people that we wished we could have gotten to know better! After their stint in Maryland, the Stringers moved back to California, and when Scott was recently deployed on a Navy Cruise, Janelle decided to pack up the four kids, two dogs, and trailer and head East. Can you imagine? They've been on the road since March 3rd (that's two months!) and have been having a blast! I thought I was something special making 1-day road trips from Virginia to Indiana with my crew, but that was nothing!
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce them to you. I have so enjoyed following them across the country, and was a little sad that Indiana wasn't on the itinerary---maybe next time . Better yet, maybe we can go visit them in San Diego! I've also been blessed by reading some of the past posts of this godly, homeschooling mom! The body of Christ is full of such fabulous people! (And Navy wives are some of the all-time best!) Heaven is going to be an AWESOME place!
Now I've got the itch for a road trip myself. Where do you think I should go? Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Maine, North Carolina, South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, Louisiana? Who's up for company? Hmmmm....

We have a guest room and a big basement! (full of toys). You can come anytime! Catching up on your blog, makes me realize how I've missed your friendship. I miss your words of wisdom!
We had a blast with the 'zoo'. 26 days, 6 kids, 3 dogs, 3 adults. Hmmm...the adults and dogs were equal. Not quite right! I wouldn't trade a day of their visit. Those girls have totally taken over this Auntie's heart!

If you want history, head to Edenton, North Carolina! My father was born there, as were his parents and we made several trips there when I was a child. Unfortunately, most of my family that lived there (that I know of) have died or moved away. But I am planning on an East Coast trip someday with my family. I want to show them all the places I went to back there. I'll check out the Stringers site, as well. About your last post, I've had similar situations happen to me and it's a bummer. I think that's why I shy away from homeschool groups - I don't want to deal with it! But have faith - if God wants you there, things will change for you. I think my 6 yo daughter is my best friend, too! Aren't they great? Total acceptance, although my daughter is also totally honest which can sting, sometimes! Glad you have a loving family. Take care and God bless!

Well, I'd love to see you in Bloomington, but you may need a longer road trip than that. ;) You're always welcome, though! I'll check out her website. Lisa Whechel did a long trip with her kids in a motorhome and I thought it was such a great idea and opportunity!
If you want to go east, we're in OC MD right now and loving it! Best hotel I've ever stayed in.
I read your post below and didn't get a chance to comment then. How are you feeling about it now? Ready to go back again? I know I would really hesitate. It breaks my heart that there have probably been many women feeling the way you did at events I've been at or even been in charge of. Your post was a good, fresh reminder of the ministry and importance of greeting. They say the first 4 minutes in a building make all the difference. |

I put you on my prayer list my SSiC. I just love your name. My best friend in elementary name was Angle. (0= I had struggled with bolimarexic ( combo of the two ) when I was in my teens. I don't like to diet b/c of that. I REALLY DON'T like to weigh myself either. So I am like you I rather go by my clothes as a guide of how I am doing. I don't know if you know that a square cubic inch of fat and a square inch of muscle the muscle weighs twice as much. That is one reason I don't like going by how much I weigh.
I am so sorry you had to experience the isolation at the HS meeting. I have sadly had the same thing done to me. I ended up moving before I really got a chance to know people. I hope your plan works and yes it is good to do to others AS you want done to you. (0= You will make a GREAT greeter. (0= !
God Bless my SSiC
In Him<><
