For the Sake of the Call
May. 23, 2007 - Only Shattered Glass |
|
“So what are you up to today?”
“Oh, not much. I’m just sweeping up a thousand little chunks of glass.”
A mighty gust of wind swept through our backyard this afternoon overturning our umbrella and shattering the glass tabletop. Fortunately none of us were outside and no one was hurt! The irony is that we were just out shopping for new lawn furniture and had decided to be content with this hand-me-down table that the previous homeowners had left behind. Instead of purchasing an entire set, we chose 6 coordinating chairs to replace the dirty, moldy, and mildewed ones that originally went with the table. I guess we’ll be on the lookout for an inexpensive new table after all.

I’ve cleaned up bigger messes before, but it was still an unplanned interruption. While I was cleaning I was pleasantly surprised by a phone call from a college friend. It was good to hear her voice! She had been dreaming about reading The Secret Garden after reading this previous post. It’s amusing that I’m influencing my friends’ dreams with my blogging, but I’m glad that reading my blog has resulted in sweet dreams rather than nightmares! After I got off the phone with her, I finished my sweeping and pondered the power of the wind and the devastation that it causes. I thought of those who have had a much greater mess to clean up after the fury of the storm passes. I swept and prayed; thankful that the destruction that I have faced in my lifetime has been so minimal! It’s only shattered glass.

Oh no. I hope that the wind doesn't ruin anything else!
I had my fair share of glass bits to sweep up a couple of days ago to : (
My daughter 3 was bouncing her ball in the hall and she threw it up into the light fixture which was quite large and it broke it off of the fitting sending it crashing to the tile floor. It shattered into a million pieces and sending them flying all over. It's amazing how far they went skidding. Luckily thank goodness she was unhurt and it didn't land on her! I spent the next half hour running around with the vacuum over and over trying to get every little shard picked up.
Blessings,

| The EXACT same thing happened to us last Wednesday!! Horrible. We've been shopping all week for a replacement. It shattered all over our deck and down on the patio below and some was in the grass. When I saw it I just couldn't stop thanking God that my girls weren't hurt; they were only about 5 feet away when the glass went flying. So glad you guys are ok!! |

Now that's a mess. Oh man, I'm glad nobody was hurt. Can you imagine? aaaah
(my littlest daughter sat on something glass when she was 3 and she has scars on her little bottom from it. It was HORRIBLE pulling the glass out of her cheeks. |

Thank goodness it "was" only glass. Wow. It shows you how powerful wind can be. These are times it is good to be thankful and then pray and help those who "are" in need b/c of bigger things. Thanks for the reminder my SSiC. Thanks for your sweet comment. I hope to get to know you better so I am tagging you with a meme of 8 and you might want to do a reverse tag b/c they are very fun. (0; I really enjoyed reading about your girly week-end. (0=
God Bless my SSiC

on our way home from northern arkansas to south arkansas (back to dial up) we came through some hard rain for a couple of hours. it was rough driving. but we made it home safe too.

Thank you so much for your prayers for my dh, I really appreciate it! He's doing a little better tonight.
I liked your comment that large feet are a sign of royalty. I feel regal already! I hope you find a new table to go with the chairs. Take care!

| WoW!! You model such a sweet attitude and great insights. The last time I saw glass like this was when my kids pulled off a shower door on them in the tub which smashed all around them. I know what wind gusts can do... one in Ohio lifted our heavy heavy wooden swingset/fort up and toppled it! Watch those midwest winds! |

Are you STILL cleaning up your glass? WHERE ARE YOU? Too long for me to go without reading your blog!
We bought a replacement table at Menard's for $77. Doesn't match our chairs perfectly, but at least there is glass in it! :) |
