For the Sake of the Call

Jul. 26, 2007 - Is it such a shock?

So tonight I went with my sister to a Pampered Chef party and we met at my parents house where my dad and brother were out back working on cars or something.  When I went back to say, "hi," my dad told me that I looked really pretty.  "Sweet," you say, and I would tend to agree, except for the tone of surprise in his voice.  Then my 22 year old brother looked at me and said, "You really do look pretty!" with the same surprise in his voice, then my dad added that I really looked very nice and he even admired my earrings (pretty, dangly, green ones I picked up at Target or somewhere...nothing expensive or anything).  Thanks, guys, I think.  But really, is it such a shock?  How not-pretty I must normally look to receive such a response!  I only wish I'd had my camera handy so that I could have taken a picture to remember how pretty I looked that one time, you know, before I went to that Pampered Chef party.  Remember, when I wore those dangly, green earrings and dressed in something other than an old VBS t-shirt?  Ah, yes, what wonders can be accomplished with a curling iron and some mousse; and with a little help from Maybelline, I can even make my acne-ridden, combination skin look..."perfect."

Jul. 27, 2007 - Hi there

Methinks they weren't so shocked; maybe they just got it finally figured out that they don't have to save their compliments for women outside of the family.

I laughed at your flylady dropout comment. I was too rebellious to put on shoes. I mean, seriously. Does this woman have children to mop up after?

Blessings to you,
Keri

I like that your daughter and I get to share the same Holiday, a day for prayer is always a good present.

LOL. My husband got this response when he wore a suit to church last Sunday. (Well, they didn't say he was pretty.), but they kept saying, "man, you clean up good!" Cracked me up.

Blessings,
Lori

Wow. Maybe I'll try to find myself some green dangly earrings. Can't remember the last time two people in one day told me I looked pretty!

that's so funny. I'd call that a compliment though...I think!

and if you understand the mechanics of mousse, I'd appreciate that knowledge. My hair is soo straight that all it does is lay. flat. period.

so what were you wearing that was so dazzling? you just alluded to the NON VBS shirt. :)

Jul. 27, 2007 - What I was wearing

To answer nsre:
I was wearing olive green Eddie Bauer capri pants, a plum colored nice t-shirt and brown sandals with a slight wedge heel. Nothing too spectacular.

And all I know to do with mousse is put it on wet hair and blow dry, but I do have some body to my hair; the kind of waves that warp and frizz when I don't do anything to them. I wish my hair were either more curly or more straight instead of the in between frustrating! The best thing for hair is getting a good cut that actually goes with your hair's natural style and work with it rather than against it. Flat, straight, hair is really stylish right now! Not that I'm an expert on style or anything!

I know that reaction - my boys have it on Sundays when I get ready! Very surprised, very *in awe*. I know. I should wear something besides t-shirts and capris, I guess. And earrings, apparently! :)
