For the Sake of the Call
Aug. 23, 2007 - Eight Random Things About My Marriage |
Writer's block. One minute there are a thousand ideas swimming through your mind, the next...nothing! This has been a tougher week, I've been very tired and had a migraine yesterday and still don't feel quite right today (and no, I'm not pregnant...I don't think). We've managed to get a lot of schoolwork done, but not everything, and the house has been sorely neglected. Blogging has just not been a priority! But, I remembered that I'd been tagged (by StillHisGirl I think) for this latest spin of the 8 Random Things meme. So here are 8 random things about my marriage.
- I met my husband our sophomore year of college and on our first meeting, I argued with him about whether or not he was in the housing group that he said he was in because I knew all of the sophomore men who were in said housing group and I did not know him. So do you think he was attracted to my absurd arrogance? Maybe he found it amusing?
- I wasn't intending to get married nor did I want to have kids, and I certainly didn't intend to fall in love. I was pursuing a noble career with the support of many; I knew there would be no way to balance my career with having a family! (I had seen women try to do it, working 60-80 hours a week while a nanny raised their kids. No thanks!) I tried to deny my feelings and even played the, "let's just be friends" card, but there was no denying the fact that I was growing to love this man. Night after night, after spending the evening with him; walking around campus, talking, I would return to my dorm room where I would sit on my bathroom floor and pray for hours. It was there that the Lord revealed what has become one of my life verses. "The mind of man plans his way but the LORD directs his steps." I had planned my way and it had brought me this far, but step by step as I followed the Lord's leading, my heart for my career was being overcome by a heart to get married and have children. (We wanted 4.) :)
- We were married on my grandparent's 50th Wedding Anniversary. Their cake was prettier than mine. :)
- Our best man was my husband's roomate freshman year and I did know him; in fact, he was obsessively infatuated with me and plagued me from the first week. I rejected him so many times only to later grow to adore him as a dear friend all the while falling madly in love with his best friend. I suppose it was only fair that he announced to our guests during our wedding reception toast that he liked me first, poor guy! I wish I knew what happened to him!
- In an effort to wait 2-3 years before having kids, we implemented Natural Family Planning techniques and I, very naturally, got pregnant one month after we got married. Brilliant!
- I didn't know how to drive when we got married, so my dear, sweet, husband had the great pleasure of teaching me how to do so. It's only by God's grace that our marriage survived such a trial! ;)
- My family knew that he was the man for me the first time that he visited our home. I had (have?) quite a temper and they were amazed at how quickly it was diffused by a simple touch of his hand on the small of my back. He continues to have a calming effect on me, and I wish I could keep him around all day long.
- After years of searching for that one bosom friend and enjoying countless friendships with girls but never really having that "best friend" that you do everything with and talk to about anything all the time, I finally found my best friend in my husband. He's still the one I run to about everything and anything, and I've talked him to sleep more nights than I can count. I'd rather be with him than with anyone else in the entire world! I thank God for Him repeatedly every day and cherish every moment I have with him! It doesn't hurt that he gives the best back rubs! ;)
There you go. It was hard to pick just 8. I could have easily listed 8 about our dating years, 8 about the wedding, and another 8 about our marriage!
So, now's the time when I get to tag others, and I just can't do it. I'm too tired to choose and link and all that, so if you haven't participated and you'd like to, TAG! You're it! Just let me know when you do so that I can come read all about your marriage. |

Your #1 made me smile. :~) And isn't it great that God knows what we need far better than we do?

You're so cute... and still in love! Aren't our men just the best!!! Working so hard to keep their wives at home to school our children??? I love to read about the whole romance thing... weddings, first dates, the love of Christ in a marriage... it's just so beautiful. Thanks for sharing your 8 random things.

I actually didn't know #1. I thought you guys met freshman year! How funny! He is a great guy, and you are both blessed to have such a wonderful marriage and family. It's funny when I think of the two of you, I think of you as my friend, although my freshman year you were both equally my friends. It's funny that once you get married, the friendships with the women are what continues, even if there was a pre-existing friendship with the husband. It is just too weird to be "good friends" with a married man. Although I do have fun with him when we are all together. I am looking forward to some rousing games of euchre the next time we are together-- moo moo the cow is in the barn!
On an aside, PCP has better chances of visiting because she has family in the actual town-- I am sure you would have better chances if that were the case for you. At any rate, we will find a way to see each other, hopefully in the next couple of years! |

Enjoyed reading through this wonderful list.
Another great week of homeschooling under your belt.
I know that you are all getting into your routine.
Really I'm not as organized as I may appear. I need these plans for when the fatigue sets in.
Belle doesn't yip, yap or really bark much at all. She just barked at the girls because they were paying more attention to the TV than her. She thinks it is play time! You and your children would love her!
Wishing you a great weekend,
