For the Sake of the Call

Aug. 26, 2007 - GO NAVY!

This afternoon we avoided the $70 it would have cost for our family to go to the Airshow and set up our chairs and blankets at an elementary school close to the airport to enjoy the show. It had been several years since our last airshow at Pax River in Maryland where we lived for 5 1/2 years. I was an Army brat myself and have a sister and friends in the Air Force, but I grew to love so many Navy and Marine families in our time there that they forever brainwashed me into thinking the Navy is best. Part of it was that their sacrifices were so visible to me. The closest I ever came to experiencing a deployment was the last 8 months of our life in Maryland while we waited for our house to sell after my husband had already started working in Virginia. It was a tough time with a preschooler, a toddler, a newborn and a house to keep clean enough to show at any minute, but my husband still got to come home every weekend. I just can't fathom being separated for months at a time, which so many of my dearest friends have experienced not once, but many times. So as I watched the Blue Angels and cheered, my heart was overflowing with gratitude and appreciation as I fondly remembered all of the friends and strangers who sacrifice so much daily for my freedom; and all I could say was, "GO NAVY!!!" :)

Thank you SO much for your thoughtful comment on my blog. It helps to know I'm not crazy and alone.

And I have a post coming on the Navy this week. Living on an island with a Naval Base has made me just LOVE them. This place is totally patriotic. My previous home was in a big city and the only bumper stickers I saw were IMPEACH Bush ones....ugh.

here? Flags always fly, and Support our Troops replace the awful anti-Bush bumper stickers.

So, I second your GO NAVY!

Awww...big warm fuzzies. The Blues must be heading west, bc we're due to have them soon here in HI! I'm glad you got to see them. Airshows are so fun when they're not too hot!

My husband & son usually go to the air show too, but didn't this year. My neighbor down the road went though, and she said it was awesome. She too, loved the Blue Angels the best. How wonderful that you got to enjoy it for FREE. (my favorite word) ;o)

I too am partial to the Navy, being a Navy wife for the past 12 years I am Navy through and through. Although I support and appreciate all of our servicemembers I am partial to one specific tall Navy pilot. :)

Ah, we sent off two friends to Iraq yesterday and my cousin last week. These men are so young... only 19! Wow. There is nothing like an air show to get you all excited about our military sacrifice!!! I loved Maryland when I visited there... and Virginia. I need to go back! It's so far from CA.

How awesome that you live close to a place that has air shows and better yet that you could see it for free!!! What a true blessing!

Although my husband was never military, it has been one of his biggest regrets that he never joined. His father was Army and served in Vietnam and we have numerous friends who have been in various branches of the military so we are very PRO military.

While some may question how good it is, my girls and I have been watching the show Army Wives on Lifetime TV and we just love it. I get so sick of seeing all the president bashing bumper stickers and news articles, etc. While we may not all agree with what the president does or doesn't do, the people who serve in the military deserve our support, not our criticism.

I will proudly stand by you and say "Go Navy!" too!!! :)

As a Marine Corps wife, I count myself blessed to have wonderful, supportive friends like you by my "side". (I wish it were physically, but I'm just tickled to be getting to know you in the cyber world...at least to start with;)

I hope you ended up having a good week. You sounded a little weary when you posted on my blog. My end of the week last week came unraveled, too. Sigh... but we must press on and ask Him for Grace.
