For the Sake of the Call

Oct. 12, 2007 - Goodbye, Punky

A funeral procession into the darkness.

A tiny black kitten,

Abandoned by her mother;

We could not replace her.

Buried in a raisin box

At the place of her birth.

Daddy prays.

Tears flow.

"Good-bye, Punky."

Death stinks; even when it's only a four day old kitten.   Perhaps she was sick to begin with.  God only knows.  But no matter how rational I try to be, there's nothing easy about hearing your children mourn when something they love dies.  How does a mother respond to, "But I wanted her to live!"  So did I, sweetie, so did I.  I can't imagine how families deal with the death of a baby.  How weak we are to be so upset over a tiny kitten.  The LORD gives and the LORD takes away.  Blessed be the name of the LORD.  Spunky remains; true to his name.  Maybe he'll linger with us a while longer.  But he'll be so lonely.

awwww. In a raisin box? What a tiny thing. We buried the bird that crashed into our window as well. The kids weren't nearly as sad, 'cause we hadn't gotten to know it....but Jim said a little prayer thanking God for letting us enjoy it while we did.

Let's just hope that the other kitty does better than it's sibling.

I bet it is extra sad because it was so tiny and needed you guys. That nurturing aspect tenders hearts! It's a good experience for your kiddos to nurture. And sadly, it is also probably a healthy experience for them to feel the loss, too. You'll do a great job comforting and pointing them to the source of comfort!

Oct. 13, 2007 - I'm so sorry, Angel

Our family has experienced a number of similar things and I know it's sad. The blessing is that 1) It's a great opportunity to deal with a very difficult issue in a less painful situation than , say, a close family member and 2) There is satisfaction in knowing that the little kitten had a much happier/comfortable few days being loved on by you and your family than he would have had, lest you didn't care for him.

Hopefully your other little furry friend will pull through. I nursed a kitten like that (the only one that survived from his litter) and he grew into quite a strong and wonderful kitty.

Love,
maggie

He won't be lonely! You have all those wonderful companions right there in the house.

The loss of an animal you are caring for is very sad - I am so
sorry.

Ah... I feel for your babies. Loosing a kitty is hard - even if it was 4 days old. You did the best you could for those little orphans.

So sad, tears came to my eyes reading this, poor little thing, poor kids, and you too-- it is always hard to see your kids grieving.

I try to look at the time that we do or did have and be thankful for that. Not that it is any easier but then you focus on the happy and not the sad.
I have had and am facing death in my family now with my grandfather passing and my step father has terminal cancer. I try to focus on the moments I have had and it seems to help.
Just look how cute the pictures are of you nursing the little kittens, how nice to have had the chance to do that.....Good job all of you for taking the time to care and love those little ones! The one will be missed.......
Blessings Lori

Nice to see you post a quick note!

But I want you to know that the most powerful spiritual experience of my life happened when I was 13 in my grieving over the death of my pet goat. God has very interesting ways of working with us. You don't know how He might use this with you dc. So be alert for the opportunities that come up as I am sure you will be.

We just adopted a 4 week old little kitty who somehow got separated from her mama. She's finally eating out of a bowl, but is a tiny thing. She looks like your baby..

Bless your kids heart, it is hard. We worried about this one. Her brother died. She's a spunky little toot.
