Feb. 8, 2008 - Joy Comes in the Morning by Abiding

"When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong;

Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand."  Psalm 37:24

Joy comes in the morning.  The sun is shining, the pity party has ended, and I am blessed.

I appreciate the outpouring of love and encouragement after yesterday's depressing post.  I was so blessed by imaginary playdates and e-mails and phone calls.  You are all wonderful!  Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Looking back, there are several root issues that brought on my desolate attitude: fatigue and exhaustion, disappointment, weather, confinement to my house, dehydration, poor nutrition, discouragement... But the biggest reason for emotional outburst is that in the midst of everything, in the time that I should be clinging to my Source, I had left my first love.  I have been worried and bothered by so many things and have neglected the one thing that is necessary.  When I should have been turning to Him, I was searching for others.

God often blesses us with others to encourage and challenge us.  He designed us to function within the body of Christ.  He encourages us to fellowship, to bear one another's burdens, to confess our sins one to another.  All those "one another" verses are critical because he didn't create us to live in isolation.   But He is the true vine, and we are called to abide in Him so that His joy may be in us and our joy may be made complete.  Bottom line, I haven't been abiding.  It's a serious issue that needs to be dealt with.  I appreciate your prayers, and I challenge those of you who may be feeling the same way I was:

Are you abiding?

Grace and Peace,

Angel

Am I abiding? uhhh, no. Isn't it obvious? ;-) As usual, you are right on!!! He actually convicted me of the very same thing in the wee hours of the morning (that'll teach me to stay up until 2:30!).

I, too, have a hard time abiding sometimes. But the Lord laid those verses on my heart a couple of weeks ago. How precious that He shows us our needs and doesn't just walk away from us. I'm glad you are feeling better. :)

Well, I'm chiming in too late here on your last post. (you're updating so quickly!!!) But I agree...one: blogging is fun and exciting, but it's bizarre that you don't see these people in the flesh!! Two: our first love...JESUS!! Abiding in the vine. I have a jangly song going through my head..."Love, joy, health, peace, he has made them mine! I have prosperity, power and victory, abiding, abiding in the vine." Call me and I'll sing it for you! ha. Anyway, nothing can take the place of "snuggle time with Jesus!"

Feb. 8, 2008 - I can be guilty of this very thing as well.

Sometimes it seems easier to relate to flesh and blood people than a God I can't see. (So I am related to the children of Isreal.)
Glad you are feeling better. A Good night's sleep can do wonders.
And thanks for you comment yesterday on my blog. I answered you tonight. Feel free to continue the discussion if you so desire. I enjoy discussing, esp. things that matter.

Very True. It never fails to happen to me. As soon as I get my eyes off of Jesus and on my feelings, situation, others I end up in a "funk". The Lord has so often reminded me that funk is self pity and I need to repent and then abide in Him like you said. And when I am thinking about abiding in Him it sounds and looks so comforting and peaceful. Thank you so much for the reminder to abide in Him. I have overwhelmed today and I needed to read this post. Thank you for being a blessing,
:>Michelle

You are so right. I have definitely been feeling the same way as you. I need to pray more and reach out for fellowship. It isn't always easy, but necessary. I'm glad you are feeling better. Your blog is very enlightening and encouraging. Thank you.

good, good stuff. What struck me was that you were open and vulnerable...and THROUGH that you were blessed. Phone calls, emails and comments.

Now, just think what would have happened if you didn't share? If you kept it all bottled up, 'cause you were embarassed to admit that you were lonely.

Hey, you spoke for many who don't have the guts.

So, that's my nickname for you today. GUTS.
