Boromir: None of us should wander alone; you least of all. So much depends on you... Frodo? I know why you seek solitude. You suffer, I see it day by day. Are you sure you do not suffer needlessly? There are other ways, Frodo. Other paths that we might take.

Frodo: I know what you would say, and it would seem like wisdom but for the warning of my heart.

Boromir: Warning? Against what? We are all afraid, Frodo. But to let that fear drive us to destroy what hope we have... don't you see that is madness?

Frodo: There is no other way.

Boromir: I ask only for the strength to defend my people! If you would but lend me the Ring -

Frodo: No.

[Frodo steps away from Boromir]

Boromir: Why do you recoil? I am no thief.

Frodo: You are not yourself.

Boromir: What chance do you think you have? They will find you. They will take the Ring. And you will beg for death before the end!

[Frodo starts to walk away]

Boromir: You fool! It is not yours save by unhappy chance! It might have been mine. It should be mine. Give it to me!

[Boromir attacks Frodo]

Frodo: No!

Boromir: Give me the Ring!

[Frodo puts the Ring on and vanishes]

Boromir: I see your mind. You will take the Ring to Sauron! You will betray us! You go to your death and the death of us all! Curse you! Curse you and all the Halflings! [Boromir slips and falls] Frodo? Frodo. What have I done. Please, Frodo. Frodo, I'm sorry! Frodo!

Frodo: It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill him when he had the chance.

Gandalf: Pity? It was pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play yet, for good or ill before this is over. The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of many.

Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.

Gandalf: Let us risk a little more light. Behold! The great realm and Dwarf-city of Dwarrowdelf.

Sam: Now there's an eye opener at no mistake.

[Pippin knocks a corpse down a well, creating a huge clatter]

Gandalf: Fool of a Took! Throw yourself in next time, and rid us of your stupidity!

Boromir: They have a cave troll!

Gimli: Let them come! There is one Dwarf left in Moria who still draws breath!

Gimli: Nobody tosses a dwarf!

[Gimli leaps the break in the stairs but doesn't quite make it. Legolas grabs Gimli's beard to save him.]

Gimli: Not the beard!

Gandalf: [to the Balrog] You cannot pass!

Frodo: [watching] Gandalf!

Gandalf: I am a servant of the secret fire, wielder of the Flame of Anor! Dark fire will not avail you, Flame of Udûn! Go back to the Shadow! YOU... SHALL NOT... PASS!!!

Gandalf: Fly, you fools! [falls]

Frodo: NO!

Galadriel:: Will you look into the mirror?

Frodo: What will I see?

Galadriel: Even the wisest cannot tell. For the mirror shows many things: things that were, things that are, and some things... that have yet not come to pass...

Sméagol: What's it doing?! Stupid, fat hobbit! You ruins it!

Sam: What's to ruin? There was hardly any meat on them. What we need is a few good taters.

Smeagol: What's "taters", precious? What's "taters", eh?

Sam: Po-tay-toes! Boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew. Lovely big golden chips with a nice piece of fried fish.

[Sméagol spits.]

Sam: Even you couldn't say "no" to that.

Smeagol: Oh, yes we could! Spoiling nice fish! Give it to us raw, and wrrrriggling — you keep nasty
