A Teachable Moment

Posted in Boyzer Moments

The other day we had a true teachable moment.  It was something quite simple, and yet made an impact on my son, Boyzer.

He's playing baseball this year, something many 10 year old boys do in the spring.  He's grown quite a bit this past year and needed a new glove.  Well, they can be kind of expensive - at least if you want one that will last for awhile.  Thankfully we had a gift card from a local sporting goods shop that still had quite a bit on it and thought we would use it for the glove.

My husband went with Boyzer one evening to look for a glove. . .but we couldn't find the gift card anywhere.  A search ensued that even got my purse cleaned out.  Actually I thought that part was pretty nice.  I hadn't cleaned it out in awhile so it was a good excuse and my dear husband did it for me.

The next morning we weren't sure what we were going to do.  I asked Boyzer at one point if he had prayed about it yet.  He hadn't.  So I told him if he did maybe the Lord would help him find it.  Not more than ten minutes later I was looking through some things near my laptop and sure enough - there's the gift card!  It was a hallelujah moment for us because now we could afford to get him the glove he needed for baseball.

That's not the end though.  I asked Boyzer again if he had prayed, and he had.  He had a big smile on his face.  My husband and I confirmed to him that God had answered his prayer, and wasn't that awesome of the Lord?  Boyzer agreed.  I reminded him that it's so cool to see God work in our lives like this.  It's things like this, little things, that help us grow and know that God will be there for us when the big things happen.  That was the teachable moment.  And I was so thankful that this time God reminded me to use the moment and teach my son about Him.
