Our Adoption Adventure

Another quick update

Okay, I am going to try to update a little.  It has been a long time coming I know.

We are on our third day of school.  Other than being completely chaotic and crazy everything has been great.  We desperately need to work on reading and I can’t seem to teach more than one of our Liberian children a reading lesson a day.  They all want to read so badly and I am praying for a solution to helping them.

Everyone has been enjoying all the snow.  They are becoming expert snow man makers and snow ball fighters.

We have gotten the test results for their blood work..  One apparently has Hep C, another is extremely anemic and we will have to follow up to make sure it is because of malnutrition and not something more serious.  Another child has a heart mumur and needs a ultra sound to check on it.  We still have chest xrays to get and eye and dentist appts for all.

This afternoon we are off to the mid wifes.  I can’t believe it is only 7 weeks till my due date, and anyone who knows my history knows I have never made it to the due date.  We are all very excited about the baby coming.  Most everyone is pulling for it to be a boy but there are a couple girl hold outs.

That is about all the time I have for now.

Blessings,

Carri

Bless your heart! You have a lot on your plate and with a baby on the way!!! Your post reminded me of what life was like back in the spring of 2002 ~ we had 4 bio kids, just adopted our twin boys - age 21 mos and a baby due in weeks!!! Wow - then later that year we adopted our son samuel -- we went from 4 to 8 children in 6 mos!!! It was crazy -- but the Lord saw us thru it and gave us the grace to endure! Praise His name!

I will be thinking of you and hoping that your delivery goes well and that your new children will improve in health day by day!

Blessings ~

Heart Murmur

You might want to have a couple doctors check on the heart murmur before doing extra tests. One of our doctors thought both of our Liberian kids had a heart murmur, but it wasn't at all. I wish I could remember the specific name for it, but it sounds like a heart murmur when they lie down, but it goes away when they sit or stand up. If the doctor checks and this is the case, then it is not a heart murmur, and they are perfectly fine. We've taken them to multiple doctors and had this confirmed. Maybe it is common for Liberian kiddos. Anyway, thought I'd mention it, because one doctor was sending them to a cardiologist, but thankfully we had second, third and fourth opinions before we went that route.
Also, if they haven't done malaria smears, you'll want to get those done...at least 2 a couple months apart. We spent 3 months trying to figure out what was wrong with our daughter before they figured out she had malaria. Our son tested negative for it and then tested postive almost 2 months later.
