Aug. 21, 2005 - MS 150 Update 8/21

WHEW! I'm exhausted! I did 40 miles today on the MS practice ride. I can't believe I did it. I definitely pushed the envelope on that one. Next weekend, it is a 60 mile trek. I just don't know if I'm going to make it. It took a lot out of me today. At least on the actual event, you can sag some of the way. (Sag for those of you who don't know is to hop a ride on a truck for 10 miles to the next rest stop.)

I'm definitely looking into buying a recumbent bike for next year's ride. After lunch, my hubby and I went to the bike store and test drove a pair of recumbent bikes for 20 more miles! Much easier to ride except for the hills. It was definitely better on my arm and wrist problems as well as the back and neck. There is no pain there. The only thing is we will have to develop new muscles in our legs to get up the hills. The recumbent uses different muscles than a regular bike.

I'll let you know how I do next weekend.

WOW! Good Luck. It is such a great accomplish, not just physically but mentally as well. My dad did his first marathon a year ago in Hawaii and he was 67! I admire him greatly! So congratulations just for challenging yourself with a HUGE goal.
